PARIS Best route from Ile St Louis to Saint Germain

I am having a hard time finding the best walking route from the Ile St Louis to the St Germain area, in particular, to the Dimanche cafe. Since there is no metro stop on the island, is it best to walk to nearest metro and then to the Odeon stop, or just walk right to the cafe?

Have you tried using Google Maps?

If you enter your start address, and the address you want to reach, then select the walking figure icon above what you have just entered, then Google will show you a walking route on its map.

The written directions will also be there for you to follow.

I don't know where Café Dimanche is located but to Oédon, I would walk. The distant is about 1 km. Can be a pleasant easy walk (for me yes). There are busses that go to Odéon via Ile St.Louis, 86 and 87. I have take 87 many times to go from Bastille to Champs de Mars. You could take one of those busses at Pont de Sully stop ( not sure abouth the stop name but the one that's on Ile St.Louis ). Not really more practical than walking but maybe good for a learning experience of riding a city bus in Paris. But ok, walking would be the most simple.

Mon Dieu! Don't you have a map of Paris? From Place Saint Michel walk up Rue St. Andre des Arts and Rue de Buci. I've spent many moons in Paris but never heard of Cafe Dimanche.

I think it is somewhat new, and came highly recommended on here. They have chocolate in everything on the menu....including lunch and dinner!

Oh, I would rather have a better idea before getting there of our routes, instead of my face in a map the entire time (lesson learned from before since I am always the tour guide...)

I would take any bridge crossing over to the left bank, walk along the river to Place St Michel. Once there. if you stand with your back to the river, rue St Andre des Arts begins at approximately 2 o'clock( on a clock face). Walk down St Andre des Arts and the Cour de Commerce will be on your left. If you reach the intersection of rue Dauphine, rue Mazarin and rue de Buci, you've gone too far. It is just before this intersection. Hope this helps

I believe this is the place you are going to eat:

http://www.un-dimanche-a-paris.com/

The easiest way to get there from Île-Saint-Louis is to cross the bridge and walk along the river to Place Saint-Michel. Take a left and then a right on rue Saint-André des Arts and walk up a bit until your reach the Cour du Commerce Saint-André on your left.

You mean "Un dimanche a Paris".

Go to Google maps and enter "Paris Ile st Louis" for an overview.

Taking the Metro would mean you would avoid one of the nicer walks. It is very close.

Multiple ways to get there.

Take Pont de la Tournelle from ISL to the Left Bank. Walk along the Seine towards Notre dame, either above or below street level. Turn at fountain at Place St Michel, then right turn on to Rue st Andre des Arts. Left at Cours du Commerce st Andre.

Afterwards, check out Rue de Buci and Rue Ancienne Comedie

I hope you'll follow the advice to use Google Maps and plan a route to get there. The Cour du Commerce St Andre has some interesting sites... a house on it was the home of the man who actually built the guillotine designed by the eponymous doctor.
Cafe Procope is reputedly the first place in Paris to have served coffee and was a haunt of Voltaire, Rousseau, Ben Franklin and others: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caf%C3%A9_Procope

The restaurant you're going to has a remnant of the King Louis Philippe medieval city wall towers right in it. There's a gate beside the restaurant... if it is open you can get into the Cour Rohan. In one corner is one of the few water wells left in the city and a device to help you mount or dismount from your horse to pay the toll at the gate. Sorry... I've forgotten the name of the thing. If you make it to the restaurant you'll have interesting things all around you aside from the food! ;^)

The guillotine was supposedly first tested in this house also.

Just returned and it's such a quick walk from Ile St Louis and very easy. Plus, you'll walk by other places that may pique your interest as well.

Benoit Chcolats won our votes this trip so if you're near the Bastille on St-Antoine give it a try, too.

I love what google maps can do, too.

Follow French Mystique Tours/Judy and their directions; that is exactly how we got there and we walked from Ile St Louis.

You will enjoy it and the walk is a good one, so you will see more than if you just took the Metro. I am sorry I just gave you directions originally to find it from the Metro not knowing where you would be coming from.
