Paris - Best Baguette

This story is here on a UK website and was also highlighted on CBS' SUnday Morning Show. I'm headed to Paris in May and will take the list with me!!

Thanks for this list, tmh :-) I'm going to print it up and take it with me. Also, I'd like to put in a vote for:

Au Levain du Marais
32 RUE DE TURENNE 75003

It's right near Place des Vosges. Wonderful bagettes! Patricia Wells lists it in the Food Lover's Guide, and the boulangerie has a copy of the page on the wall.

Best,
Sandy

tmh,
I already had Eric Kayser and Jean-Luc Poujauran on my very short list, but your list adds several more :-) How about Boulangeries Poilâne, at 8, rue Cherche Midi?

The story on the UK website is based on an recently published book of the best bakeries in Paris. These few were in the story but understand there are about 100 in the book. Some received 3 wheat sympbols, others 2 and the rest 1.

The author is an American who lives in Paris and teaches some months at Cornell. I understand the government has 'registered' (my word) the ?baguette de tradition" or "pain de tradition" to distinguish it from the bland, post WWII baguettes.

I never thought they were boring so I'm excited to search these places out.

Pierre Thilloux was the 2004 winner of the Grand Prix de la Baguette de la Ville de Paris (Fournee d'Augustine, 96 rue Raymond Losserand, 14th). He now has to deliver 20 baguettes a day to the Elysee Palace.

Does anyone know about the book that contains the entire list of the best bakeries in France? Thanks.

webuser: the article states the title, author and publisher. However, the prices are quoted only in euros and pounds. Checking Amazon, they don't carry it so assume its a EU book only at this time.
