Paris-Berne TGV rail - cheapest method??

(1) I can't believe the cost of the TGV at about 168 CHF per adult one-way by first-class! Is there a cheaper way to get these tickets?
(2) Is first class worth it?
(Europe first timer...)

Second class is good enough.

You might look for a PREMs fare from Paris to Lyon, then purchase a separate ticket for the leg to Berne.

Second class is fine.

Hi jasles,

If you go to
http://www.voyages-sncf.com/
you can buy RT 2nd class for 72E.

SNCF offers discounts for 2 people traveling together, to seniors, to students...call the English line and ask about possibilities for your dates. The number is

011 33 8 92 35 35 39.

It's not a toll-free line, but a call won't take very long and can be a good money-saver.
