:-) Paris Bed & Breakfast??
 

Any help appreciated in recomending a B&B or feedback on a B&B in Paris for two grilfriends traveling together. Experience? Recomendations? Thanks~!!

Have you done a search on the site yet? I'm sure there are some recommendations and comments already posted. And also look for 'chambre d'hote' as that is what the French call them.

I did a quick search on this site for Paris B&Bs and there are a few threads. You are limiting yourselves if you only want to stay in B&Bs.

IME, Paris isn't a B&B sort of town. Lots of small hotels, though.

Big cities are never B&B sorts of towns, B&Bs are for small towns and rural areas.

If "bed and breakfast" doesn't turn up enough results on the web, try searching for "chambres d'hote" or "gite". Neither is an exact translation of "bed and breakfast" but close enough. In European cities (London, Amsterdam) the phrase bed and breakfast used to mean a small hotel with a breakfast room. Believe me, breakfast in London translated into cold toast and congealing eggs while in Amsterdam the table groaned with cold meats, hard-boiled eggs, cheeses and coffee refills until the question of lunch became a distant concern. But that was then. B&B has gained enough popularity in North America to enter into the tourist phrasebook in Europe now. Perhaps you will find a place where you can hope for the personal attention of the host, but I doubt it will be at a significant cash savings over a hotel.
What I keep hoping to find is a bed-and-breakfast program on a working river barge.....

Obelisque, can you tell us if there is a particular reason for wanting a B&B? Many hotels offer some form of continental breakfast at no additional fee.

If it's budget you're looking for, (and a very interesting story, too), try the Hotel Dieu Hospitel on the Ile de la Cite. In the heart of Paris, clean beds, large bathroom with a tub, and the bells of Notre Dame wake you, as you are right across the street. The hitch? It's on the top floor of Paris' oldest hospital!

We stayed there a couple years ago and loved it! You walk out the front door and you're standing in front of Notre Dame. Taxi stand out front, metro a few feet away! And for a room with two beds, the rate is E131. Hard to beat that price in the heart of Paris! :)

Thank you for all of your responses~! We are trying to stay around/under $140 for a room with two twin beds. The reason I asked about B & B's is the DK guidebook said B&Bs were the cheapest type of lodging.

Plus we were hoping for some French-speaking interaction with our hosts and also Breakfast! Granted, breakfast is likely coffee & croissants.

I will search the Fodor's site as suggested for past recommendations.

Sarge56....interesting hotel :-) In a hospital? I thought they were translating incorrectly but then it went on to explain it's history. It looks beautiful and very affordable and a lot of people would love it.

Ann1- well, my mom was a nurse, my sister is a nurse and I have two BIL's who are doctors. :) So, my daughter and I were not wiggy about it at all.

Additionally, the hospital is not like a solid building. It is built in a big kind of U-shape and there is a beautiful courtyard in the center. The "hotel" is in a very small part of one small wing. We only saw a patient once, being wheeled between corridors after surgery. :)

It truly was a unique experience. Staff was very friendly, room very clean, bathroom HUGE (well, it WAS a hospital room at one time) and very inexpensive for the heart of Paris! :)

Sarge56: It looks great. So it's still functioning as a hospital. I guess I didn't read that far. I wouldn't have a problem staying there for that price, either.

I don't have any personal recommendations, but it is easy enough to Google some sites. Also, you can find listings on Tripadvisor with reviews and maybe photos - select "Paris Hotels", then the tab for "B&Bs/Inns"... I don't think twin beds are the norm for most B&B rooms, though.

Found an earlier reference here in Fodor's to Familia Hotel in the 5th and that's looking good too @ 109€
