paris/beauvais

Hello everone,
I've been lurking here and have received a lot of good info on other trips. (thanks) I will be flying out of Beauvais in March. I know Ryan has a bus from Paris. But, I would like to stay a day or so in Beauvais. Is ther a train or bus from Paris to Beauvais and what is the apprx cost? Also, is Beauvais worth a day and half? Thanks in advance,
I'm Mac

Don't know the answer to the train question (but you can look it up on www.sncf.com), but I did have the dubious pleasure of spending some time in Beauvais some years ago. The cathedral is magnificent, but the town is a fairly dismal affair that was heavily bombed in WWII and lost most of its character. We saw several incidents of petty crime during a half-day stroll around town, too. Personally, I wouldn't consider it a particularly appealing destination.

Thanks for the answer. That is a great website for transportation.
One other question. I'll be staying at Hotel De Paris Porte De Versailles. ( great price on Priceline ) Does anyone know anything about this hotel and the location?
Thanks

Can't help you on most recent question, but you might want to repost with hotel's name in heading. You'll surely get more help if anyone knows this hotel.

As a teenager I spent a summer in Beauvais. StCirq's absolutely right: once you've seen the cathedral, the only thing left to do is to try (and in my case consistently fail) to pick up girls during the Sunday afternoon passegiata. And diversions in the immediate area are pretty limited.

BUT, the town is connected by rail to Creil on the main line. So Chantilly, for example, is only 45 minutes awa, and would make for a rather pleasanter out-of-Paris stay. And there's a bus service to Amiens, which is rather more attractive. But so is almost anywhere except Skelmersdale and Elizabeth, New Jersey.
