Paris bar for watching US World Cup game?

Any suggestions?

This is for my BF who is living there for a month, in the Marais.

Thanks in advance!

I've zero interest in soccer, but I remember that during the last World Cup, I noticed huge crowds watching the games on a large screen in one cafe on the "place de la Bastille" (which might be very close depending on where your BF is in the Marais).

But honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about him being unable to find a cafe where he'll be able to watch soccer games during the world cup.

I think they have a big screen and show sports in the bar at the Holiday Inn Republique, which isn't too far from the Marais.

I believe he could watch at the matches in every bar with a TV :) Especially, French team matches :))

Few matches in the World Cup are on at the same time. Practically every bar in France will be showing all matches involving Italy, most involving the Czech Republic and all matches in the knock-out phase (should the US make it that far). So two of America's matches will be viewable everywhere.

But the low-interest US match against Ghana on June 22 clashes with the Czech-Italy match, which every bar is likely to be showing. Few bars will be happy to switch for one customer: Italy is usually second only to football's superpower, Brazil, in its following in the rest of the world. So if he wants to see the US-Ghana match, he needs one of:

- some better advice from this board on a place likely to be showing a match rivalling for most Europeans' interest next week's Trinidad vs Paraguay match, or
- to get himself access to his own satellite TV, or
- to phone the US embassy for advice, or
- to wait for the repeat.
