Paris balcony view?
 

Just checking to see if anyone has stayed recently in a hotel that offers a room with a balcony which has a table for two and serves up a memorable view?

I'll still vouch for the top floor (one large, nice room) of the Parc St. Severin, right by the church of the same name in the Latin Quarter. The room has a wrap around terrace on three sides with great views in all directions and a nice table, as well as other furniture out there. I believe the room number is 51, but it is the only room on the top floor. You can do a search here about it, as this is where I first heard about it and then booked it for a full week a couple of years ago.

If all else fails, we had a balcony at Hotel Residence Monge in the Latin Quarter. The balcony wasn't wide enough for table and chairs, but we enjoyed standing outside, sipping wine, and watching the activity below us. We also liked the fact that the room opened up onto the balcony with two sets of French doors, so it made the area seem more open than your typical hotel room.

Just another option if you don't find what you are looking for.

We haven't stayed at this hotel yet (booked into it for the fall) but many other people have, so perhaps they will chime in with their opinions. It is the Hotel Familia, near Notre Dame. We've reserved a room with a balcony, 5th or 6th floor for best view. The website is:

Keep in mind that in France a balcony is narrow, often just enough to put flower pots.

A terrace is an area large enough to sit on.

The top floor terraced room at Parc St. Severin is room #70 (quoted from Great Sleeps by Sandra Gustafson).

Hotel Jardin de l'Odeon (6th district) has a terraced room with a vies of the Theatre de l'Odoen but costs dearly-300 euros.

at the caron de beaumarchais in the marais, we had a room on the top floor with a small balcony, which held a small table and two chairs. view was mainly rooftops and various spires, but we liked it. from the location, it seems like we should have been able to see part of notre dame, but i'm not sure i noticed. :">

Thanks for the correction, francophile. I'm in Europe at the time, so couldn't check my journal, not sure where that number of 51 came out of my head from.

Hotel de Banville in the 17eme has several rooms that meet this criterium.

The corner rooms at the Hôtel Duquesne-Eiffel have small balconies with a view of the Tour Eiffel. The corner suite on the top floor (I think it's room number 54) has a larger balcony with the same view that may be large enough for a small table and a couple of chairs - not sure, though, as it's been some years since we were in that room.

Yes that room does have room to sit and dine. It must be booked very far in advance.

Are those apartments shown on www.parisianflat.com for real? They are huge, beautiful, and not so expensive for a 6 to 7 day stay.

Rented an apartment at Parisperfect.com which was gorgeous with a terrace about 12 feet long (at least) and full Eiffel tower view from the terrace and the living room. Absolutely the BEST. Top of the line and actually very reasonable. Perfect in every single conceivable way. (including table and two chairs. Tiny gourmet kitchen and marble baths. check it out. It's to die for.

That ParisPerfect website is great! There's a fairly extensive list of useful Paris info on it, with everything from bike tours to what to do with kids in the city. Great links. The apartments don't look bad, either!

Petal: Which apt. did you rent?

I guess it's all a matter of perspective, because those apartments don't look cheap to me, nor that big. They are big in comparison to hotel rooms, but not apartments. That 2 bedroom apt is less than 800 SF, I think, which is small for a 2 BR apt (I had an apt once that was 800 SF for a 1 BR and it was about avg) -- and one bedroom was sort of in an attic and only accessible by a ladder. That was 250 euro or more per night.

The 1 BR at 500-600 SF, which is a decent 1 Br was about 200 euro per night. I don't think that's so cheap. The one in the 16th (Art Deco) is sort of interesting and a good size for a 1 BR, but is 300 euro a night. I like that one but that is a lot of money in my perspective.

In answer to question of which apt we rented....I rented the Cabernet. I loved it. I went in Nov. and paid 195.00 per night 1 1/2 years ago. Mom stayed on the couch with full view of the Eiffel tower and I took the bedroom. She had her own bathroom. It really was the view and the location that made it for us. And that we didn't want to share a hotel room. Mom needed her own space. She took the couch which was really a comfortable bed (like a day bed but nicer than any we've ever seen before)We would have spent $150 a night for a small hotel room, and for $45 a night more we got SO much more. And knew what our view was going to be. I loved that. The bus stop was right outside our door, bakery across the street, butcher store next door, grocery store across the street and the Rue Cler was 3 bus stops or about 6 lovely walking blocks away.
Linens were top of the line as were the appliances. (dual washers and dryers aren't very efficient in my opinion, we didn't do much laundry)
Oh.. and rereading my previous message, the dining room table seated four. The balcony table only seated 2. AND WHAT A VIEW!!! My husband and I are renting the Cornwall apartment (also on the site) for our London stay this summer. We are splurging on the room because we aren't big dinners out people. We would rather have a lovely living situation and fix our own simple food and buy a few groceries than be tucked away in a small hotel room with no place to put our yogurts. :)

Christina, If you think those apartments are small, you've obviously never stayed in a Paris hotel room. Talk about tiny! I'd much rather pay the $200 per night for more room, a great view, and the ability to save on breakfast or have a great bottle of wine on the balcony rather than pay for room service or a bar drink. Its not so much about the space as it is about the ambiance.
