Paris: Bad Backs
Hi I am leaving for Paris in a couple of days and both my brother and I are suffering with really bad backs. I have found the word "ethiopathe" that seems like the right thing, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know what this means? Also, if by any slim chance, anyone knows of a good chiropractor or great massage therapist near the Marais, we need it! |

Generally people with back problems see "kinésithérapeuthes", usually shortened to "kinés" or "osthéopathes" for the most serious cases, but with prior prescription from a G.P. You shouldnt have problems finding those specialistS using www.pagesjeunes.fr in your arrondissement.
My understanding is that chiropracty is not recognised as a specialty in France (and therefore not reiumbursed by Social security) |
Sorry, it's www.pagesjaunes.fr

Hi,
You don't need a doctor's prescription to see an osteopath in France, and you can see them on a one-off basis, as opposed to physiotherapists (=kinés) who you would usually visit over a number of weeks. I've had quite a few problems with my back that were sorted out by an osteopath in France (cost= approx 50 euros per session), but for several days after the treatment, the pain often got a lot worse before getting better. (You also have to be very careful not to twist, jolt or jar your back for a few days afterwards - so no lifting of heavy luggage or anthing like that). |
