Paris - baby clothes/christening gown
 

I found a thread awhile back mentioning places to buy baby clothes in Paris...I'd love more suggestions as well as somewhere I might find a christening gown to become a family heirloom. We leave next week for London/Paris & would welcome any baby shopping suggestions!

Otherwise, a christening gown is called "robe de baptème" in French.

If you saw the other thread, you probably saw Bon Point and Tartine et Chocolat mentioned, in Paris? Both in the 6th, near the 7th. How lovely to buy a christening gown in either Paris or London!

Great suggestions Surlok & Grandmere. Being 14 weeks pregnant I will have to avoid the wine & cheese in Paris unfortunately....but at least I can still shop!

My daughter was just about 14 wks pregnant when we visited Paris in May of '02 and bought a beautiful "coming home from the hospital" outfit at Tartine et Chocolat. And my little petite-fille is now 9 mos. old!

Interesting, Stephn and Grandmere, my daughter and I were in Paris when she was also 14 months pregnant of her second child, who is now 20 months old.

I second Grandmere, Tartine et Chocolat has beautiful outfits for the little ones, and for the moms to be. I had forgotten this one.

I haven't been to Bon Point, get to check this in the future. :<)

A friend of mine found beautiful antique linen and also cotton christening gowns at a flea market in Metz, France. A whole booth FULL of them, many with hand done lace, trapunto, or embroidery on them. She bought two, to take back to her 5-months-pregnant sister in the States.

If you enjoy antique fairs or flea markets, I'll bet you can find something similar in Paris.

Don't forget to look at the little hats pour l'enfant. I found a little pink "muffin top" beret with scalloped edges...it was the cutest thing you ever saw on my 8-month old grand-niece.

Another very high quality children's shop is La Chatelaine on 170 avenue Victor Hugo in the chic 16th.

My wife loves the clothes from Jacardi for both our toddler son and infant daughter. We purchased several for him in France last year, and numerous outfits for both of them at their store here in NY. The clothes are usually high in quality.

Stephn and Surlok, 14 weeks must be the magic time to travel to Paris when pregnant! Makes sense when you think about it; earlier is riskier and much later could be uncomfortable, etc.

Stephn, if you cannot stand the thought of Paris w/o cheese, the President brand of brie, found in markets, such as Monoprix, is made from pasteurized milk.

My favorite children's store is Bois de Rose. They have beautiful smocked clothes at very reasonable prices. I don't remember if they carry christening gowns but the rest of the selection is beautiful. The store is in one of my favorite parts of the city. Go at lunch time and visit the outside market around the corner. Many great restaurants and great people watching.

Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions. I had fun looking at the Mischief Kids website Btilke mentioned. The problem will be restraining myself & not buying more than my suitcase can hold. Not to mention completely wiping out our vacation budget. I may be eating just bread & butter every day - then again, in Paris is that a bad thing?!

I bought a few dresses there, with smock, for my grand and God daughter, too. The clothes are more of a traditional style, very cute, a nice selection mostly for girls, but they have a few shirts and short throusers for little boys, too.

Surlok, thank you for the location. Bois de Rose sounds like another good reason to plan a trip back to Paris before long! Although, as Stepn says, it would be easy to wipe out a budget in Paris on baby clothes (w/o filling up much suitcase space, too!). When we were there last year, my daughter didn't know the sex of the baby, and there was not much uni-sex clothing to choose from. And now I could just go wild shopping for my petite-fille!

I was in Paris with my grand kids in June. I stayed at Rue Sainte Beuve, and made great shopping at the lovely boutiques nearby, when I could drag the kids from Jardins de Luxembourg. My (now nearly 3 years old) grand daughter chose herself some very nice outfits, and a few lovely hats, that she adores to wear. Luckily, the store had quite a lot of merchandise on sale. ;)
