Paris: Autumn fashion... or whatever you want to call it

Of those addresses, for nightlife I would choose Montparnasse. However, Sèvres Babylone is in walking distance and would quite likely be more picturesque depending on the street. Then again, Sèvres Babylone is less convenient for public transportation than Montparnasse.
I would not go either to rue Mazarine or rue Sugier to use as my base in Paris.

Janikins, what did St. Cirq say that was nasty? She did mention that there were fewer "large" folks than in D.C. "Large" is a nice (classy) way of saying "fat", I suppose, but do you really find that inaccurate? We are, as a nation, really overweight.
Be nice, yourself, please.

where is nightlife mainly? i mean bustling bars, pubs, and restaurants, etc.. not nightclubs.
I know that Paris metro is not 24 hours. So we want to be able to walk back to our apt after a night out. we made this mistake in barcelona, so now we always want to stay within walking distance to nightlife.

Dh & I noticed especially this weekend when shopping for boots, how many women here in Philadelphia were wearing Uggs. I thought that trend was coming to an end, but I am wrong. Really amazing just how many there were. And the groups together with most everyone wearing them. Ugg, I was hoping Paris was over this. There did seem to be quite a few different boots. At least some have more independent imagination.

I don't think the Ugg is *only* a fashion thing, altho that is, no doubt, part of it. However, my niece who lives in Chicago says that when walking in the FRIGID Chicago winters, that the Uggs keep her feet warmer than anything she has ever owned.
Now the LA girls who were wearing them when DH and I spent the winter in LA's brutal temps of the upper 50s to the low 60s, well, that may be another thing altogether......

I can't believe that all those women are carrying purses larger than the luggage I take to Paris for a week. Woe; I shall never be fashionable.
Another observation: I've always thought that I'm past the age for Mary Janes, and the woman of a certain age, wearing them, confirms my belief.

uggs are more popular than ever. I bought my first pair in the 60s. If you lived in our cold Boston winter weather, you would appreciate them. This year, the shops are selling many of their styles. Chanel has made a version of the ugg but decorated and at a cost of 4 figures. There are many ripoffs of the ugg. You can buy them for very little BUT, it will not be lined with real sheepskin.

Anyway, I am going to do an additional photo thread of what people are wearing in this weather in my own neighborhood. I don't expect to see any Uggs. (This is going to take 3 or 4 days -- don't get impatient.)

I'm in Paris right now (well actually I'm in Nice at the moment, but I was in Paris last weekend and I'm going back tomorrow). Those photos are definitely accurate but I'll add there are two things different this year from the last few - bomber jackets for women and long sweaters with half length sleeves (worn over leggings or skinny jeans). Of course boots and scarves but that's nothing new. And big bags - which I have to say are very useful for holding layers of clothes when it gets too warm (like last weekend), not to mention purchases.

I keep seeing these weird coats that look like they are made of out remnants of a black parachute. I think they look horrible, but clearly a number of women think they are just great.
