Paris at Thanksgiving
 

Has anyone been to Paris at Thanksgiving time? Given the low rates on Air France right now I'm trying to connive, I mean convince, my husband that we should go Thanksgiving week. It looks to be in the 40s on average. Any thoughts?

Last Thanksgiving there were 4 really warm days...and 3 very cool days, and somewhere in there a really rainy day. I took a warm winter coat and a raincoat with a zip out liner...I was comfortable...coz I layered.
WONDERFUL time to go...the Christmas season is beginning...the crowds are non-existent...the sun sets very early and rises very late...
I am trying to finagle a way for myself back there again this year

We usually go o Paris for Thanksgiving. A lined trench coat, scarf, hat and gloves have always been sufficient outerwear for us. The air fares are good (we have two of those Air France tickets), the tourists are fewer and the we always have a great time. Anyone interested in a GTG?

Its cold and can be grey and rainy but of course thats Paris 80 percent of the year so dont let that put you off. If you want to have a yummy (if a bit pricy) thanksgiving meal while you are here check out Thanksgiving in the Marais.

We were in Paris for Thanksgiving in 2002 and dined at Le Violon d'Ingres, where Christian Constant offered a lovely preparation of turkey for an alternative main course on the tasting menu. Despite the cold weather and some rain we had a marvelous time--few long lines at any of the museums, autumnal specialties (such as game and wood mushrooms) on bistro menus, and no hot, humid interiors for the most part. I'd go again in a minute.

We'll be there 11/20- 11/24 (Thank you Air France!) , and would do a GTG if others are interested.

I was there over Thankgiving weekend in 1994. We decided to go for only four days due to one of the best deals I've ever had to Europe from Seattle, a great companion fare (I think it was only $199) on Northwest.

Anyway, we had wonderful weather and a Parisian we knew and got together with (a guy we had met in Aix the previous spring) told us it was unseasonably nice so, who knows, you might get lucky with Mother Nature too.

Thanksgiving is predictably a great time to snag cheap international fares because business travel really tails off that week and we were in Paris in last year at that time. Since we're from a northern climate, it is unlikely for the weather to be any worse than what we've left behind. As others have said, the tourist traffic is light, but the city is very much alive at that time of the year. You won't be sorry. GO FOR IT!

I've just returned from my first trip to Paris (only four short days), and am in love with the city. Before I left, I had already figured out Thanksgiving weekend would be my next opportunity for a visit, again too short, but better than nothing.

Question about flights: I live in a small market, and not close enough to an airport with AirFrance to take advantage of the current offers (if even still available). Where does November fall in the general range of airfares (about the same as spring, lower, higher?) - currently the fare is about what I paid for my recent trip, but know waiting can often bring better results.
