PARIS: Arriving 2pm and starved. Good food between dejeuner et diner?
 

Should get to the hotel in the 3rd arrondisment at about 3:30 on thursday and to wake up will walk the rue de temple to the Seine. Most restaurants don't fire-up till 7:30 and we will have been starved on the flight (air france 777 leaving 9:00central)<BR>Anyone serving a good meal at that hour near the Ile de cite? hungry joe

Joe, If you go across Pont St. Michel onto Ile de la Cite, straight ahead directly across from Ste. Chappelle is Les Duex Palais Cafe, I think they serve all day. We were there around 2:00 pm or so. Good sandwiches and omelettes, and all the cafes have good salads. Of course, there are plenty of cafes all around that serve in the afternoon. Hope this helps.

Joe, one thing which is great about Paris and bad for one's waistline, snacking. With an abundance of cafe's you can always grab something to hold you over between meals. Its almost like a sport in Paris, people snack when their bored. You will have no problems finding a great croque monsieur to hold you over. French bread with ham and chesse in a heated press that is great for breakie for lunch.....

Le Flore en l'Ile, on the Ile St-Louis just across from the Ile de la Cite, also serves food all day, and features a great view of Notre Dame, to boot.

I vote for a crepe stand. You can get them with all kinds of fillings.

I disagree completely with Tom's comment - French people rarely &quot;snack,&quot; unless you mean sitting with a coffee in a caf&eacute;. That said, there are always sandwich shops and charcuteries and small grocery stores and alimentaires where you can find something to tide you over between mealtimes. And Joe, if you're really concerned, you can get a meal at the airport, which is probably the only place you could find a real &quot;meal&quot; at that time of day in Paris.

I can thnk of places you could go, thought not next door.<BR>One is La Bucherie 41 rue de la Bucherie, in the 5th. On the left bank, just opposite Notre Dame. This is on one of the oldest streets in Paris. The cafe has a fireplace to feel cozy around, very good food, and excellent desserts. At lunch time they get a mix of casual drop-ins and business people. They are open for lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. Basically continuous service from noon to midnight, so it’s a particularly good place to go to, as we did, on your day of arrival when you’re not sure if it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner time. phone is 01 43 54 24 52. Next door is the famous English-language bookstore Shakespeare and Co. Several places serve afternoon tea.<BR>Closer to you than the above is Le Loir dans la Th&eacute;i&egrave;re 3 rue de Rosiers, 4th, metro:Saint-Paul. open daily <BR><BR>And the famous Angelina's 226 rue de Rivoli, 1st metro:Tuileries. open daily.
