Paris apt or hotel w/ free internet + A/C?
I'd like to get info from anyone who has rented an apartment or hotel room in Paris that offers free internet access and equipped with air-conditioning. We're going in Aug and the consensus seems to call for A/C. Hubby is a nerd and thinks that he needs internet access so he can check e-mails or his company will fall apart. He's used internet cafes before but it's not like having free access in the room. Our budget is around US$100/nite.
Thanks. |
I agree the air is a must and if they also have free internet access that's a plus. I however did not find anyone offering the free access in France and just returned Wed. (Did run across it in Germany last Dec).
La Poste sells a card for 7 euro that gives you 60 minutes of access. Wonderful since they seem to have dial-up service but not every Post Office has a PC. Our hotel offered DSl hookup in their breakfast room and it was 2 euro for 30 minutes. Came in handy but not for chekcing stuff about work. A/C seems to cost a bit more but heard on this post that Hotel Muget in the 7th has it and I know they are nto expensive. Don't know if they have access, tho. |
I presume he means he wants free high-speed access? Otherwise, he'd be using a modem which would have a per-minute charge of course.
Take a look at http://www.accorhotels.com . I'm not sure anything will fit your budget, but you can try. |
Within the Accor group, newer Novotels offer good Internet access as they're aimed partially at business travelers. But I don't know that you're going to find one in Paris for $100 per night.
|
With Priceline, people do get Novotels from time to time in that price range when bidding for a 4* hotel, but of course it's impossible to predict what hotel you would get. I think almost all 4* hotels available through Priceline would have Internet access in the room, but it certainly wouldn't be free, and it most likely would not be high-speed.

i was just looking at the website for hotel caron de beaumarchais - where we stayed last april.
they now offer "wi-fi" in all rooms, and they have a/c. it's a great location in the marais, and you can sit on your balcony with your laptop, looking over the rooftops of paris! |
..hate to be discouraging..I dont think you will get both AC and high speed access in central Paris unless you get a last minute special or a priceline at $100/night
|
I was checking AC hotels recently for August, also, and the Caron de Beaumarchais is around 150 euro for a small room, I believe.
I don't think you will get what you want, as that budget is only around 80 euro a night at current exchange rate. I have not seen a hotel room in Paris with AC at that rate in a central area, and if they are in that super budget category, it's unlikely they will have free internet. I would venture to say without qualification that it will be impossible to find a rental apt. like that for 80 euro a night. I have actually seen some with free unltd internet around 100 euro a night (which is amazing enough), but without AC. The Muguet is fairly cheap for a decent AC hotel, but even it is around 110 euro for a double room and that is without free internet. I have read about some hotels with in-room internet access but I've never seen one where it was free, although more hotels do have the Wifi spot thing. I don't know of any at that rate, though. |
The Mercure Raspail, which I considered staying at, has special rates for a double/twin room of 85 Euros per night, and it has air conditioning and Wifi (not sure if it is free). I asked about it a few months ago and got advice that it was fairly conveniently located. It's a 2* hotel.

Actually I'm not sure about the rating for that hotel. The Mercure site lists it as a "2M" hotel, but I see other sites list it as a 3* hotel.
|
The Muguet does have a computer in the lobby which you can use for 2 euro for 30 minutes. Not in your room, but at least it is more convenient than an Internet cafe.
|
Not $100 but 110-117Euro for double/twin to superior in August. Airconditioning and free internet.
Breakfast reduced from 10E to 7E. http://www.paris-hotel-londres-eiffel.com/index.html |
Hi,
most hotels nowacays have A/C and most of them have internet connection, but with dialup only, you have to know that in france as soon as you use your phone you will have to pay. However, have alook at the following website, they offer apartments with free internet connection, but no air conditioning unfortunately, some of them do but are prestty expensive. Have a look at this: http://www.paristays.com A bientot, Pascal Concerning |
Pascal, I'd beg to differ about the AC being common in Paris hotels nowadays. At the 2 or even 3 star level it is still the exception rather than the rule, and some advertise AC in public areas but not in sleeping rooms.
|
I think that Londres Eiffel sounds like a winner at that rate. I don't know exactly about Wifi, but I believe you need special equipment on your PC (card) and then it isn't free -- it's just like a connection, but when you connect, you have to pay fees for the access. I don't know what the fees are, but there are a lot of spots around now that have Wifi.
I agree that AC is very rare in a 2* hotel, but it is really fairly common now in Parisian 3* hotels in the central area (those are the expensive ones, though). I figured it out once for St-Germain or somewhere, and it was definitely over half of them, probably more like 3/4, of 3* hotels had AC. This is not as true in other areas outside Paris, or in the outer arrondisements. I don't think apts with free internet but no AC are going to be of much interest in this case, in August. In any case, if you had to get one and not the other, you should go for AC as you can use the internet in many places. A lot of hotels do have access in the lobby area for a fee, like the Muguet. Here is one place that started having internet access in every room a long time ago and is a 3* hotel with AC and not too far from that rate in August http://www.champerret-elysees.com/ This hotel is really for business people, I suppose, and the location is not that exciting for most tourists (near the Palais de Congres). Now I suppose since they offer high-speed internet access in the room, that means you have to pay a connect charge, but I'll admit I do not travel with a PC and don't know how that works. I think it is better to get away from work while on vacation, myself. |
