Paris Apartments

My partner and I are planning a trip to Paris in the fall. Currently, we are planning a one month stay and would like to rent an apartment for this period. We are older women and would like to stay in an area which is relatively safe and convenient to shops, entertainment and public transportation. We live in NYC so we are more than comfortable using subways, buses and walking. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Public Transportation is very accessible anywhere in Paris. I like the Marais area. 5th and 6th arrondissements would also be convenient.

www.parisbestlodge.com is a great company that lots of Fodorite's, including me, have used.

We stayed in this one and it was great. It might already be booked though so don't wait long to start booking something.

Our favorite is www.guestapartment.com
We stayed in Hibiscus on Ile St. Louis and love the location. Full kitchen & clothes washer.

Another one we loved was www.servissimo.com
We stayed in #53 which was around the corner from Hibiscus. It was not as fancy but large, very quiet and comfortable. Downside, no oven, dishwasher, or clothes washer, just a microwave and cooktop.

Both services have an office closeby and were very efficient right from the initial email. We've had an apt. on Ile St. Louis 4 times and found it to be the perfect location for us.

A month in Paris----how wonderful!

I would suggest the 4th, 5th and 6th too, although some like the 7th, which is a bit quieter and more residental in some areas.. I prefer people out on the streets in evening as I sometimes visit solo and prefer not to have to walk back down deserted streets alone later in evening. However I have also stayed in the 8th, 14th and 1st and been very happy with those choices also.

I ususally stay in hotels but am using parisbestlodge myself this summer, so many good reviews, they have been charming to deal with, and I didn't have to pay up front, just sent in a check posted date for date of stay for security deposit.

I have stayed in both of these apartments: http://feelslikehomeinparis.com/pari...-caulaincourt/ and http://feelslikehomeinparis.com/pari...urt-classique/

They are in the 18th in the most perfect neighborhood and pretty street. Everything you want is within a one block walk; boulangerie, patisserie, boucherie, flower shop, chocolate shop, cheese shop, wine cave, and several really nice cafes and restaurants. The #80 bus stops right outside and whisks you to connecting bus/metro lines or directly to many destinations. You will be living in a neighborhood full of locals with nary a tourist in sight; living in a building where you are the only short term renters. I would love to stay in either apartment for a month, or three.

I'm currently staying in an apartment booked through AirBnB and am very satisfied. Lots of choice on the website, I've used their booking system before and recommend them. This one is also in the 18th, my favorite arrondissement, suitable for just 1 person, but I suggest you take a look for others: http://www.airbnb.com/

I just realised I forgot to paste the link to the apartment we stayed in! What an idiot!

You did not mention your budget. My husband and I stayed in this apartment last year. It is in the Marais.

The apartment has 2 baths/2 bedrooms , a elevator - although small - it is nice to have one. The kitchen is modern and the neighboorhood is very nice. Close to shops and other items for cooking in the kitchen. I have already rented it for 2 weeks in May 2013.

Thank you all for taking the time to answer our requests and we will explore all of your suggestions.

Don't forget VRBO.com I would suggest looking in the 6th to start with. A lot of good apartments are being snapped up pretty quickly now for fall, so don't wait too long.
