Paris Apartment Recommendation

Hello! My wife and I will be staying in Paris for a week at the end of September. I am thinking that an apartment would be the way to go for a little more space, a fridge to keep market food cool (save $) etc. I've done a lot of research to see what is out there and am having a hard time finding out which sites/places are trustworthy. I know it's all a risk so I'm hoping that if you've stayed it one that you can personally recommend you can provide a link and let me know.

Our requirements:
Small (only two of us so 20-40sqm is fine)
Centrally located (areas 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7)
Close to a metro stop
Safe area (yes I know most places in these areas are safe...)
Budget: 600-750 euro for a week

Thank you!!

I have just the place for you! We are staying there in mid October and I have stayed at another apt owned by the same people. Sylvain, the owner, is a pleasure to work with and the price is reasonable and it is in a great area.

Tell him Deb from New Mexico sent you!

Hello Deb! Thank you for the recommendation! Can you describe where it is located? It bugs me when these people don't put their place on the map for us to look at.

You might try Thierry at parisbestlodge.com. He's honest and reliable and has some nice places, in the Marais mainly, but in other areas as well. We have just rented one from him in the 5th for later this year.

is it near Pompidou Center, on Quincampoix

A bit about the area.

wE LIKE vACATION iN pARIS RENTAL AGENCY as you pay in US dollars and get keys before you leave so no waiting around for someone to let you in. WS HAVE RENTED THEIR mARAIS gARDEN dELIGHT SEVERAL TIME AND IT IS PERFECT for the 2 of us. Excellent transport options and lots of services and shops and cafes nearby. You can walk to the seine and Isles, Bastille Louvre, Place de Vosges several museums. First floor with a garden and internet access.

Another vote for Thierry at Parisbestlodge.
I have rented from him a few times and he is great.
Very honest and reliable.

The apartment I linked has no cleaning fee; you can send a US$ check for small deposit which is returned to you when you leave and you simply pay cash when you arrive. It doesn't get any better than this - oh, the apartment has great reviews and nothing but praise for the owner [same for his other, larger apt near Hotel de Ville in the 4th.

Paris Perfect is excellent, most apartments are in the 7th. they have an office in the 7th which is convenient should you need to store luggage on arrival or departure. They know the neighborhood. The apartments are great, very well maintained. We have stayed in one and visited another one (a fellow Fodorite in Paris at the same time). They have many different, ours was small but plenty of room for the two of us. I highly recommend them,

I apologize for hijacking this thread; I have a question about the apartment DebitNM is recommending. Deb, is the apartment air-conditioned? I don't see any mention of air conditioning. We will be in Paris from July 29 for 7 nights.
Thanks.

Paris Perfect Apts may be excellent, but they are all WAY over the OP's price range, even the ones advertising "sale" prices.

justineparis Mar 9th, 2012 10:27 AM

I also recommend Parisbestlodge, dealing with them is very easy, and some of their apartments have air conditioning. I am renting one with a/c, views of Notre Dame, its the Esmeralda. Look on his website. I like that I just had to send a check( in my own funds) for a deposit that is returned at end of my stay. No extra fees.

DebitNM Mar 9th, 2012 11:23 AM

Kwoo - I will find out and post back.

Kwoo Mar 9th, 2012 11:36 AM

justineparis,
What are the logistics of renting an apartment? Did you send a check only for the amount of the deposit? Would that be for one night? Then you pay the balance when you arrive? Can you pay the balance by credit card? Where is your apartment located?

I will create my own post later on today. Sorry to be hijacking this thread. I have lots of questions about hotels and apartments.
Thanks.

Lannistergold, regarding the Marais apartment Debit recommended: Perhaps I missed it, but it doesn't say what floor it's on. That should be a consideration (as well as air conditioning) because what seems like an easy walk down in the morning is not so pleasant going up at the end of the day. Also keep in mind that "first floor French" is second floor US. However, I love the Marais, so I would also recommend that area.

If you look at VRBO you'll see there a a ton of choices in your price range. I've always had very good luck dealing with owners on VRBO. This summer I'm renting from homeaway.com and it's gone very smoothly.

It is an elevator building and and I think it is on the 3rd [American] floor.

We stayed in Thierry's (ParisBestLodge) La Couple apt. Great owner of the apartment, fantastic neighborhood (boulangerie, fromagerie and wine shop on the same block), lots of cafes just around both corners, next block is chock full of creperies, there is a metro at the corner and a bank. Not a touristy area, although the cafes where Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Stein et al used to hang out are just around the corner. We were a couple and a 14 year old. Studio apt with a small kitchen. You give the owner a deposit check which she doesn't deposit and upon leaving she tears up the check (assuming you aren't frat rats and tear up the place). Feel free to contact me with any other questions. When we were there it was 800 euros/week.
