Paris Apartment - Opéra Sainte Anne
 

We are looking at an apartment rental in this neighborhood for a visit next year. Previously I have stayed in the 6th or 7th so am not familiar with this part of town. We much prefer a neighborhood feel and the apartment is perfect size for our group.

Any feedback is appreciated!

I think LSky thinks you are asking for recommendations of apts in that area, not sure.

Well, if you've been to Paris before you must have been on the Right Bank at times and around the Opera, haven't you? And this isn't that far from the Louvre, either, and is near the national library and the Jardin du Palais Royal, but I guess you know that. It's more the business area of the city, of course, and parts of it are a lot older than the 7th, for example, which means streets tend to be narrower and closer together. And it is less residential than many other areas, but of course some people have apts and live in that area. It does not feel like any mainly residential neighborhood at all, to me, but probably others would disagree. That's a fairly long street, though, where exactly is it? It runs all the way from around the metro Quatre Septembre down to past the Pyramides near place Malraux across from the Palais Royal (an area that I'm not crazy about, actually, that particular square). Just lots of traffic and stuff around there, not a lot of greenery.

There seem to be lots of Asian tourists around that general area, especially Japanese, I think. So various hotels and restaurants cater to them, if you are Japanese you might like that, I guess, if you want Japanese food. see http://ogijima.com/japan-in-paris/

There's a famous restaurant around there, of course, you probably heard of it, Le Grand Colbert, which isn't priced that bad http://legrandcolbert.fr/

It's just north of the Jardin du Palais Royal on rue Vivienne.

We have an alternative apartment we are considering.

I am advised it is on the Rue St. Anne which is parallel to the Avenue Opera. One block to the Palais Royale. Is that helpful?

We are a large group of family and friends and wanted to rent two 3 BR/3BA apartments near to each other. The first one I posted does not sound like what we are looking for.

If the one on St. Anne is in a better area, then we can book that and find a hotel nearby for the overflow.

We stayed on rue des Petits Champs once and St Anne crossed it. The immediate area has many businesses and Asian restaurants as Christina said. It was convenient to Pyramides & Palais Royal metro stops and a Monoprix on Ave de l'Opera. We enjoyed our stay there but do prefer the 6th.

I was confused because the link you gave is for a place right near Les Halles, which isn't near rue Ste Anne at all.

I wouldn't rent any apt where they refuse to tell you the address. Rue Ste Anne is not parallel to ave du l'Opera, it just isn't (if rue Ste Anne is the base of a triangle, ave du l'Opera is the hypotenuse). And it runs N/S so several blocks of it could be considered one block from the Palais Royal, more or less, but at least that means it is south of rue des petits Champs.

I don't know that one is more preferable to the other in terms of the areas you named. If you really like the apt, it will certainly be a convenient area in terms of travel. If you have certain things in mind that are really important in terms of a neighborhood feel, I wouldn't stay there.

I do not expect to find everything we would like to have and am more concerned what is high on our list - a bathroom for each bedroom, an elevator in one of the apartments for an older family member and a neighborhood that is safe, clean and convenient for accessing the metro and bus system.

The rue St Anne closest to Palais Royal is nicer as I remember, not quite as many businesses. It is also close to Hotel du Louvre (you mentioned maybe needing a hotel as well)

Judy, thank you and yes, I did find that hotel in my research and that is a definite possibility.

I looked at the website and it seems to have several Paris Vacation Apts listed. I've stayed in the 3 bdrm on rue de Lille and it was lovely. There is a hotel (Hotel d'Orsay I think) in the same block.

kfusto, have you contacted the agency to let them know what you need? We always rent from www.parisvacationapartments.com and this agency seems to offer most of their apartments. I know that several of the 2 bedroom apts are within blocks of each other. Perhaps the agency can help you if they know what your requirements are.
