Paris - apartment location/ references for 'vacation in Paris' rentals

Bon jour! Am excited about planning a fall trip to Paris and am wondering if anyone has used 'Vacation in Paris' recently to find their rental apartment? Their reviews are, overall, very positive. However, when renting apts in Europe, I am used to paying a deposit then providing the bulk of the bill at checkin. For this company, it appears that the entire payment is made prior to arrival. The payment is by credit card or Paypal, so there is recourse. Still, I'd feel better if one of my 'Fodor's Friends' gave it a thumbs up!

Second question - the apartment is in the 5th -St Germaine at Rue de Buci and Rue St Andres des Arts. I've not stayed on this side of the river before - comments on the neighborhood?

Merci!!

We used VIP several years ago without any problems. Based upon our experience with them I do not hesitate to recommend them. The location of the one you are looking at is great,IMO.

We stayed in VIP # 122 on rue St Andre des Arts, in the 6th but just off Blvd St Michel. Great location and nice flat. There's a pull-out sofa, table and chairs, 1/2 bath and fairly well-equipped kitchen on the main floor. 1/2 bath does not have hot water, unusual but unheard of. The kitchen sink does have hot water.

The bedroom is up a steep flight but BR and bath are full-standing height. The bed is a large queen or possibly king, very comfortable. Shower very small. Towel allocation was on the stingy side, bring facecloths.

On the same trip friends rented a studio from VIP. It was very, very small but had been accurately described on their site.

I found the company very easy to work with and would use them again.

We have used them several times for rentals. Terrific company to work with has been our experience. I actually prefer having our apartment prepaid rather than needing cash upon arrival. In June we have to pay in cash 750 euros for the remaining rental due on our apartment plus give a 1500 euro deposit!!-ugh Deborah

We have used Vacation in Paris each year for the past 4 years. They are a great company to deal with, reliable and honest. I have recommended them to anyone who will be visiting Paris.

we get all the information we need about the apartment and the area, we get the keys sent to us a few weeks before we leave, we don't have to pay a huge security deposit, wondering when and if we'll get it back, we can charge our stay to a credit card. Our apartments have always been exactly as advertised, we've had no unhappy surprises on arrival. What's not to love. They get a full 5 stars from me all around.

I have used VIP twice and we are renting 2 apartments from them next month. I have had no issues and really like paying in USD before I depart as well as having keys in hand when I arrive. My house rental in the Dordogne requires a hefty final payment and deposit in cash and I had to pay out the nose to get Euros before we leave. All rentals have been in the 4eme and have fit our needs.

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately, it turns out that my perfect apt is already rented so it's back to the drawing board to see if I can find another VIP place that works!!

The location is great. Please note it is noise around that area at night. That being said, I don't like them at all because they cancelled my booking last minute.

Have a great time.

Oooh, cafegoddess, what did you end up doing? Did they try to help you secure a new apt, and what was their reason? I know stuff happens...hopefully they tried to accommodate you elsewhere?

Hi Joan
They offered an apartment on the 18th that cost a lot more with a 5 % discount. I told them I was traveling with my in-laws who are in their mid eighties so we needed apt in the center. They didn't care and no offer of other accommodation.

Luckily we found an apartment with Paris Perfect, plse note our reservation was during Christmas, so it made looking for an apartment tougher. Their excuse was, the owner wanted to pay them less commission. We are now loyal customers of Paris perfect, they have beautiful apartments.
