Paris Apartment help

Hello all my Fodorites,
My husband and I would like to rent an apt in Paris the second week in October 2008. Can someone give me a few links of maybe places where they have stayed. We would like to stay in the 4th 5th or 6th. We live in the US and if any of you know of agencies that are in the US to go through that would be wonderful.

This is a pretty late date to book an apt. for October, so you may not get the best choices, but probably can find something. I just booked something I liked quite a bit for end of Sept/early October, so things are still out there.

Here are a few US agencies I've considered and look at when I'm searching, in addition to vacationinparis:

www.drawbridgetoeurope.com
www.paris-sleeps.com
www.athomeinfrance.com
www.francehomestyle.com
www.chezvous.com

The last one isn't one I am crazy about, it's just pretty expensive.

I've reviewed many sites, and used a few, and I've found my favorite to be www.vrbo.com. Easy to navigate, easy to select by arrondisements, easy to contact.

We booked an apt with vacationinparis also and were very pleased--based in NJ and the rental price in US dollars which is an advantage over euros. We were able to discuss with them the pros & cons of various apts which was a great help. We booked three months ahead which was not enough time--six months is ideal. Even though the apt we got was our third choice, we were very happy with it.

I rented from vacationinparis.com for an apartment in the 6th. I have written a detailed report on it under, "Guenmai's Paris apartment rental experience". Type it in the above Search Box and it should pop up...if not...just type my name in the Search Box and then scroll for it. Happy Travels!

Our recent VacationinParis rental was seamless. In addition to paying in dollars, they send you the key before you leave together with detailed directions and instructions. No waiting with a fistful of euros for an owner/agent to show up. You can also pay by credit card. They also have a local contact in Paris.

We just spent nine nights in Paris in June, and we enjoyed our apartment. It is out a ways in the 10th but there is a Metro stop within a short walk. It is also a short walk to Canal St. Martin. The site is www.aparishome.com Good luck!

We rented from a lot of agencies, paying extra agenc fees, before we wished up and start renting with VRBO dealing directly with the owners. Our favorite is vrbo.com/103254, affordable (so we can go more often) central and with it own private garden !

I rented a great rooftop apartment in the 4th from Rent Paris www.rentparis.com last year and the experience was excellent. Fabrice & Jean-Pierre could not be more helpful or welcoming.

We just went through the same thing for short notice in Sept., spent hours on the computer with the sites we've booked through, VRBO.com,[email protected]. Also looked at www. ParisAttitude.com (easy to navigate, and they really tried to help.

Finally found the perfect apartment on St. Louis en I'lle in our price range through www.GuestApartmentServices.com So far the arrangements are going smoothly, and they are very easy to deal with.

We did have to spend a little more than we wanted to, but staying on St. Louis en I'lle is worth it. We love the location.

It got to the point that we would have to stay farther away from our target location, or go up in price because of availability, stay in a 4th or 5th floor walk up(we did that last year and it was a killer), or something with no style because that was all that was left. We decided to go up a little in price and get what we wanted. It's still less than a hotel, and we love going to the bakery in the morning and having coffee, pastry, and their wonderful bread in our apartment.

Tip: If they offer a service to pick you up at the airport, take it. It's only slightly more than a van service and is very much worth it. There will be someone to meet you holding up your name, and since the flights are long and tiresome,it's a big relief. Last year our luggage was lost and our driver helped us with where to go and fill out paperwork. Since our French is minimal, this really helped.

Hope you have a wonderful trip. Check out the pictures under "Paris, where to wander" of Tom Sneed on this site---they sure are beautiful!!

Tpayt, we rented with guestapartment.com (company name is Guest Apartment Sevices) a few years ago--they were wonderful, the apartment was lovely and everything went off without a hitch. Which apartment are you renting? Enjoy your stay!

I didn't recommend them to kittpom, however, because they're not a US-based company.
