Paris-apartment(found on rental-apartment-paris.com) Feedback?
We rented an apartment in Malais from www.parisaddress.com for 2 weeks in early October. It is studio with 2 beds, 1 bathroom and a kitchen, located on the 1st floor on 54 rue Charlot. We have 2 days if we want to cancell the reservation.
Does anyone have some information for us? Please advise. Thank you. |

Bonjour from Paris. That location is indeed smack in the Marais, in a section with narrow streets that some find charming and some find just old. It is OK, not luxurious by any means nor particularly well located for the usual tourist areas. Would not be my first choice, but might be OK. On the other hand, it is right across the street from the Institute of Sexology at # 57...

...in the Malais... (sorry, couldn't resist) |
Always keep in mind that most (not all, but most) pictures shown of apartments are taken with wide angle lenses and the furniture shown is usually better then what you actually will find in "your" apt.
This is not said to turn you off to taking this apt., but be realistic and realize a studio is very tiny. I have relatives who live in Paris and I've been in many apartments - from some with spectacular views of the Eiffel Tower to others with views of the walls of the next bldg. Most apts. will be alot smaller then what you would get in the U.S., and a studio is going to be pretty small. As long as your realize that it's fine. |
Seriously, though, it looks fine in the photos. I'm guessing the 1st floor is actually the 2nd floor (since there is mention of no elevator...).
"Shower only" could be a very narrow shower. Studying the photos carefully, it would appear that there's not much space next to the beds to the wall opposite the entrance door. Your bags will likely fill up the floor space, as is the case is most hotel rooms - storage space is often very limited (though there appears to be handles for what may be drawers). We stayed in an apartment last year that I thought was well represented by the photos. But, a friend who had stayed in the same one previously e-mailed me that she was overwhelmingly dismayed with how "tiny" it was when she arrived and saw it in person for the first time. So, you should just be prepared. Highly recommend the following which are nearby: Le Clown Bar (for a drink and a look at the exquisite tile murals), 114 Rue Amelot (11th). La Fontaine Gourmand, 11 rue Charlot. Astier, 44 Rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud (11th). |
Thank to all for the very informative feedback!
