Paris apartment fire kills 16

I'm only seeing this story on msnbc so far. It doesn't give a location within Paris.

bbc reported that it is in the 13th and 22 people were injured as well - terrible news!!

How tragic.

This is tragic, and so soon after that hotel fire in April.

I'm all the more sensitive to this kind of news as my wife and daughter are staying in an apartment in Paris this week. It's in the 4th, however.

Hi Anselm and don't worry for your wife and daughter. I'm sure they won't stay in that kind of insalubrious building! It is a real shame!!!! There was a tv program, a few weeks (months?) ago showing THAT building. a girl shew the camera the way she lived there with other immigrant families and it was really disgusting! electricity wires going out of the corridor walls, water leakages (not sure of the word)
I wonder if she is still alive...

a rabbi went to the police "commissariat" to complain about the danger living there but nothing was done to change anything (except the roof that was being renovated).
It had to happen. And with that sort of things I feel ashamed to be French! :-(

It's in the 13th around Place d'Italie. I saw a photo of it but can't figure the exact streets, not that it matters.

There are several homeless shelters and welfare housing facilities in the 13th around that area. This isn't any kind of apt. or residential hotel that would be like anything a tourist would be connected to in any way. It was entirely owned by some agency that does social service work for immigrants.

However, the Parisian authorities had better find out what happened to all those inspections that were supposed to have taken place after the last even of this kind.
