Paris Apartment - 11th versus 7th

I know how convenient it is to be in the 7th but I've found a spectacular apartment in the 11th at Boulevards Lenoir and Voltaire for my trip in March. Will this distance be a hassle requiring a cab or is it still quite walkable? Thanks

The choices you have are not "cab or walkable" but rather "Metro or walkable". Based on that criteria, few areas of Paris are eliminated.

Near that intersection I see 7 Metro stops on 3 different Metro lines

11th is Bastille area which may not have a lot of tourist attractions, but in general will be livelier than the 7th. Ff you like clubs...

Distance to where? Walkable to where? There is just as much public transport in the 11th as there is in the 7th, or just about any other arrondissement in Paris. Some people may prefer a location that has easy métro/bus connections to the places they plan to visit most frequently so what arrondissement could be considered convenient depends on where you want to spend most of your time. The location you are looking at in the 11th is an excellent location (IMO). If the métro connections in that location require one or more transfers to get to the places you want to frequent then you should familiarize yourself with bus routes and I'm sure you'll find enough options to satisfy you.

I imagine the 11th to be much more convenient than the 7th for the things in Paris which interest me.

We spent a month in an apartment in the 11th a few years ago and loved it. Loved walking to Marché Richard Lenoir to pick up lunch or supper. Loved the fact that we felt safe walking home late at night because there were always lots of people on the street (Rue de la Roquette -a bit grubby but always lively). Loved the wide selection of bistros and clubs in the neighbourhood. Metro and buses made getting around easy.

Have never stayed in the 7th, so really can't comment, except that one night we tried to find a restaurant in that area and everything was closed.

For me there is no question whatsoever: the 11th is preferable to the 7th. And that specific neighbourhood is great, with lots of food options and the fabulous Popincourt market. Easy transporation, the Canal Saint-Martin is in walking distance. Go ahead and reserve the apartment in the 11th.

Thanks for all your wonderful responses. This is great news and I'm going to book the apartment tomorrow.

Where do you think you will be going every day? I love the 11th, especially the location of the apartment you're considering. Don't care for the 7th at all, too staid. But that's just me. And if you think you'll be spending a lot of time in the 7th maybe that's the place for you.

CYESQ I love the 11th. Planning our trip for Aug 2012. Your location sounds great. What apt have you found? Lift? & How many bedrooms Thanks

Here's the link to the apartment. It's the 7th floor penthouse and does have a lift. 3 bdrms, 2 full baths. I think it's lovely, let me know what you think.

"<i>I know how convenient it is to be in the 7th</i>"

Sounds like you don't need any more convincing, but if there are any lingering doubts, the 7th is generally not very convenient. The 11th is great . . . And that apartment looks fabulous.
