For future reference, go to google maps, show the Avignon TGV station [or whatever you want!], and use the "search nearby" feature to find car rental agencies. Easy as can be!

Well, this trip for 2020 had to be cancelled for obvious reasons. Fingers crossed that it will happen in 2021.

Then in 2022 I plan to retire (again, fingers crossed) and am in the planning/dreaming stage for that trip which may include more of France and part of Italy. So, question: Would you prefer to visit eastern or western France if you had to choose?

Since 1999 (when we retired) we have spent 2 months each year (except this year) traveling around France. About 70% of our time has been spent in eastern France. If you exclude the Dordogne & Brittany (western France) from consideration - then the % goes up to 90.

If I had to choose, it'd be from Bordeaux south a bit, and from Bordeaux east to Vaison St Romaine, southeast to Bedouin, south to Aix en Provence, west to Carcassone, northwest to Bordeaux. All of which seems quite different to me than the rest.

I agree with tomboy, but I would put plenty of the Dordogne and the Gorges du Tarn into the plan. I would also correct the spelling of Vaison la Romaine, Bedoin, and Carcassonne.

Thanks for your thoughts. I should probably start a new topic for this trip. What I am kind of thinking is taking the train from Paris to Vannes, spend some time in Brittany, then continue south to Bordeaux, Dordogne, then head east to Antibes or Nice area. Here is the Google map I started. https://goo.gl/maps/PxGRFn9EortuayBt5

This is going to be my retirement celebration trip, so I won't be limited by work constraints for the first time in my life, but I am thinking around a month.

But there are also parts of eastern France that look lovely. Might have to save that for another time.
