Paris airport Ratp booth ??
 

I will be taking the Yellow van from airport to city but would like to get my Carte Orange at the aiport if their is a maned booth so I will be ready the next day.
My daughter just returned a few days ago from Paris. I told her to get the orange card, she got the weekly card and was given the weekly coupon good for the week for 16 E for zones 1 and 2 but says she had no orange card and no photo attachment. Then she mentioned that it was an automatic machine where she bought it no indivual person there so I am thinking maybe she just got the weekly pass and was lucky she was not checked. Now I want to make sure I get a booth that is not automatique so am thinking of maybe buying it at the airport if there is one there.

i assume you arrive at cdg? it is a very large airport, and the booth i saw and used was near the train station.

this may not be anywhere near where your van is picking you up, in which case just go to nearest manned station once at hotel. they will guide you there.

The RATP is no longer giving out picture IDs with the Carte Orange. I don't know why, since technically you're supposed to have one. But this seems to be part of their strategy to idle all their agents behind the windows and force everyone to buy tickets from machines.

Two weeks ago we bought our Carte Orange at the airport. The woman at the manned window had no problem selling it to us and also gave us the orange jacket it goes into. We already had one from a previous trip so just put our new ticket into our old jacket, but could of easily used the new one provided. We actually cut up an old picture a few years ago, to the right size and attached it to our carte orange, so didn't even use the photo kiosks in Paris.

The office is in terminal 2, close to were the trains leave to go into Paris. If you arrive in terminal 1 you must take the free bus to terminal 2.

I arrive at 2A, so I will try and find that booth.
But after reading Anthony's post I went back to Ratp and I think there has been some changes perhaps in the last few days. If I am reading the french properly, it seems I can buy these at over 1500 different places now, They have a place to put down which arrond. you are staying at and then give you a list of nearby places. There seems to be a Tabac a couple of doors down from our apaartment so I think I can go there. Here is the french version.

Some stations may be out of the ID part of the Carte Orange since it is phased out and replaced by the Navigo Pass.

The Carte Orange has not been phased out. It will be phased out someday but when that will happen is speculation. You can buy CO from automatic machines but that is for people that already have the card. You need to go to the ticket window to get the card.

If you want to try this at the airport, walk from Hall A in Terminal 2 to Hall C. At the far end of that hall there's a Sheraton hotel. The down escalator to the RER station is there, and I think that's where the pass would be sold. Just guessing that the hitch Anthony reported may be related to the push to phase out the Carte Orange. (For example, the RATP has roving agents in the Metro system asking people whether they're using the Carte Orange and if so, offering to sign them up for a Mobilis pass and issue it on the spot Apparently one can still say no thanks, but they are now in high persuasion mode).

There have always been tabacs that sell RATP tickets. Very few of them, however, will have the picture part of the Carte Orange.

I just wrote to ratp asking where I could buy the carte Orange and that I was arriving at Terminal 2A and here is the answer I received.

Le Bureau de vente RATP à l'aéroport de Roissy Charles de Gaulle se situe au terminal 2D près de la porte 11.
Il est ouvert du lundi au dimanche de 7h30 à 12h15 et de 12h45 à 18h00.

I agree with Louie, the tabacs etc that sell individual tickets may have the weekly or monthly CO coupons, but I think it highly unlikely they will have the orange ID card. That French is referring to the coupon or tickets.

I don't understand the first post which says she got the "weekly card" plus the weekly coupon and then says she got no orange card. There is no other card. If she got it at the machine, she wouldn't have gotten the orange ID card, you never do. It is for people who already have it and are just buying replacement coupons. The booths aren't automatic, it's a machine on the wall.

My daughter got a weekly coupon. No orange card. She used it for the week without a problem. But I understand she could have been stopped. That is why I want to make sure I am in a manned booth to buy mine and get both the card and weekly coupon.

You must have a photo card, but I think that if you don't already have an old fashioned Carte Orange, you are obliged to get a Navigo pass. The "Club RATP" offices in various metro stations take your picture with a digital camera for those cards.

Unless it's changed in the last 2-3 weeks, they are still giving out the Carte Orange folder. Sure, the new one we were given in February had an updated look, but it was still the same thing as our old version. In the metro stations one of the validating entrances is only for the Navigo Pass, but the others are for the other passes. You're not required to get the Navigo Pass yet.

It's easy to get at the airport office. Even if the line is long, it moves quickly. Be sure you enter on the left side of the office. The right side is for regular train tickets. There are 2 seperate doors along the glass wall.

Have a wonderful trip! :-) Please, let us know if you're successful in purchasing a Carte Orange. We're traveling to Paris in April, and I've been curious about the same thing, though we do already have our Carte Orange folders from our first trip to Paris in 2000. From what I've learned, some of the metro stations are not selling the tickets at the windows, especially the ones that have been recently renovated. There are Metro stations, though, that are still selling them as of a couple of weeks ago.
