29Feb, it is my sister who is also an art-lover. She actually works as a collections manager and puts exhibitions together for a living. She can't go with me on this journey though due to a big exhibition of her own opening in June in her museum.

Amy, just wanted to add I understand your dismay at the Gardner Heist, and was interested in some of the new (to me) info about a guard's possible involvement.

My own Vermeer heartache was visiting The Mauritshuis in 2008 and being told that "Yes, The View of Delft is here but no, you cannot see it." The museum was prepping for a major exhibit and the most beautiful painting in the world was behind locked doors.

I resolved to be grateful for all the wonderful art we saw in the Netherlands but still...

Gomiki:
Enjoying your TR very much, hoping for more. I have taken taxis from CDG into Paris from the "official" taxi rank half a dozen times in the last ten years and they have been metered running anywhere from 45-60 euros. Can't recall getting one at the flat rate. Hmm. Or, maybe the horrible jet lag misery has altered my memory.

I'll be in Paris two weeks from now for a few days before making my way to Conflans for a River cruise and made a lunch reservation at L'Ange 20, also as a result of Maitaitom's rave review. I'm so looking forward to a scrumptious meal.

Just saw in another post here that as of March the CDG/Paris taxi fares are regulated. Hurrah. One less thing to worry about.

Recently got the "Paris, again?" remark from one of my friends. Apparently, she doesn't get that Paris has "got" me.

Yes, €50 to the right bank and €55 to the left bank. That started a year ago in March. Last fall I felt sorry for our driver. Traffic was terrible and I think it took an hour and a half into the city.

I think you will be very happy with your meal at L'Ange 20. My regret is only eating there once!

I hope you have a wonderful trip and hope you will do a report. I would love to hear how you like L'Ange 20 and hear about the river cruise. I am envious! <Apparently, she doesn't get that Paris has "got" me.> Exactly!

Can I buy the "Navigo Decouverte card" at the TGV station?

Thanks, Gomiki, I will definitely write a TR on my return. Just ordered a few euro today to get me oriented and am about to email the hot spot rental place so that will be waiting for me at the hotel on my arrival. Now I'm gnawing at the bit and there's two weeks to go yet!
