Paris accomodations.. help!

Hi,

I have 7 nights in Paris. I'm trying to get a feel of where I should stay..
Some people say Rue Cler is close to Eiffel tower but far away from everything else?

or should I do 3 nights in Rue Cler and 3 nights in Marais?

Any suggestions on the area?
Also any hotel recoomendations? (I'd prefer something small and cozy and family-run and a little on the cheaper side)

Has anyone stayed in a Bed&Breakfast kind of place in Paris?

Merci beaucoup!

Effectively, Eiffel tower is "far" from other parts of Paris(far in the "parisian
way" : if you love to walk, it's not a
problem..).
in this part, hotel de la Bourdonnais is a nice spot.

A nice adress is hotel Chopin, on the "grands boulevards", more central.

Erik.
PS : both are "family-owned" and run type...

20 of the most popular hotels in Paris here ... http://www.hotels-paris-france-hotels.com/top20/

If you are looking to be near to it all try http://www.hotels-paris-france-hotels.com/gare-du-nord/

From here the near by train and subway station make it perfect for all the city centre attractions around Paris

I take it you are looking for a single room? I agree with your description of the 7th. You will be happier in the 5th or 6th. Don't split your week between hotels.

Of course, it depends on when you're going. If you're young and reserving well in advance, Hotel College de France (5th) appears to be a great bargain from the reviews here and at tripadvisor.com. ---85 euros high season.

Hotel Bonaparte is a tried and true favorite, terrific location. Search on "bonaparte" and you'll find all you need to know.

Hi S,

Paris has an excellent public transportation system.

I would find one hotel and stay there.

What's your budget?

We always stay at the Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th. From 124E dbl w/bkfst. It is located near 3 metro stops. Has AC

I'm a believer in splitting a long stay between two different areas in a large city. Read the first part of my trip report where I talk about a split we did this summer between Hotel Saint Louis Marais and Hotel Bonaparte.

You need to tell us what you mean by "a little on the cheaper side". Cheap means different things to different people.

I'd definitely stay in the same place for the whole time. Packing/checking out/checking in/ unpacking will eat up 1/2 a day.

Me personally - I prefer the 5th or 6th but the 4th is good too. But really anyplace is convenient to everywhere by metro/bus/walking.

We stayed in the Rue Cler on our first trip at the Hotel Muguet. Loved the area and the hotel was good. We took the metro to everything so it was very convenient.

The next time we stayed in an apartment by St. Michel. Much closer to things (right across the river from Notre Dame, edge of Latin Quarter, etc.). There were definitely more restaurants and shops in that area. We thought an apartment was terribly convenient and with restaurants and markets right below us on the street, that was very easy. We used vacationsinparis.com and were very pleased.

On recent visits I've stayed in two different areas. I find it more interesting as you get to experience different locations.
