Paris accommodation
Hi.. I have found 2 good B & B's in Paris. Trying to workout which one to choose. They are both close to Metro stations. One is next the Villiers Metro and the other is next to the Gobelin metro. This is the first time my husband and I have been to Paris. We are in our late 40's. and fairly fit. What do you think?
You need to give us the actual names and locations of the B&Bs and also tell us what things interest you and probably what time of year you are traveling.
I stayed in the Gobelins neighbourhood and loved it. I would love staying around Villiers, as well. Both areas are great and residential but not too far to travel to and from on a regular basis, go ahead and pick one of the B&B's.
Other posters might think neither is good for a first time visit as they are too far, but I am of the opinion they are perfect. Enjoy Paris, it's fabulous. |
Ok... we are travelling in May 2012. Staying in Paris for 6 nights. The B & Bs are courcelles-parc (near Villiers metro) and un ciel a paris (near Gobelins metro). We will be arriving at CDG and leaving Paris est station for Venice. We want to see the typical attractions ... Louvre, Montmarte, Eiffel Tower, Moulin Rouge and a day trip to Versailles. I want to go to some good Paris markets and some nice (average priced) shops too. Thanks for your help :)
My understanding of B&B's in Paris is that it is usually a room in someone's apartment. For me, that would just not be a good arrangment--just my opinion. How much are these going to be, out of my curiosity. I just wonder how it compares to a hotel room, for example.

Villiers has a great street market plus the Batignolles organic market on Saturdays. Gobelins has the fabulous Auguste Blanqui market on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Hi Gretchen... Most decent B & B's in Paris seem to be around 150 euros for a double per night.
The rooms have their own ensuite and serve good breakfasts. Check out Trip Advisor. |
The only thing I might be worried about is street noise, since both B&B are located on busy avenues. If noise is not an issue or they have double glazing, I would gladly book either. Maybe Gobelins can be considered a bit more central due to its proximity to the Latin Quarter.
Thanks for giving me confidence in my choice of a B & B Keren, and the suggestion on markets. Still tossing up between the two locations though :)
Keren, The one in Gobelins faces a back courtyard. The one in Villiers faces the street. I think they both have double-glazing. I like the idea of walking to Notre Dame too (which is better from Gobelins I think).
Yes it is. I stayed very near Boulevard Arago. As said before, it's a very nice but you'll be nearer the famous Rue Moffetard and might also take the trouble to walk to the small Place Monge market (active on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays - 2 metro stations from Gobelins). There are many places to eat around Gobelins and the Latin Quarter.
Sorry about the confused text about. I wanted to say that it takes about 15 minutes to walk to the Blanqui market and that Rue Mouffetard is nearer.
Why not go to the VRBO web site and rent an apartment. It is a great way to do it and the standards are very high. You can come and go as you like and you get the oportunity to buy French food in the many markets and small grocery shops that are readily available.

Hi deb,
You can determine the travel time from each metro stop to anywhere in Paris at www.ratp.fr. You can tour the neighborhood at www.maps.google.com I think that you would be all right choosing the better apartment rather than on the basis of the neighborhood. Enjoy your visit. ((I)) |
I prefer the Gobelins neighborhood, I've stayed in that area and usually end up there at least once on any trip, to eat dinner or go to the movies or something. But I usually stay on the Left Bank.
Thanks everyone... I have settled on a place in Monte Marte and happy with my choice :)) All your advice was very helpful :))
I found a little studio which is close to the Paris Est (for when we go to Venice) and it is also close to metros, busses, shops, markets, tourist information etc.
