Paris "911" number?
Does Paris have the equivalent of a "911" emergency telephone number?
|
|
Hi missy,
If you go to www.google.com and enter "Paris emergency telephone number" you will find what you need. |
Everywhere in the EU has 112 as an emergency number.
Even in countries that more commonly use another number (as the UK uses 999), 112 will always get you the emergency operator - anywhere. |
Yes, dial 112 from any fixed or mobile line anywhere in Europe. Alternatively shout loudly "au secour" several times (this one only works in France, Belgium and some parts of Switzerland) |
For goodness sake, ira - - yourefer someone to google for this!?
It's 112 - - an evolving standard in Europe but by no means universal everywhere. You can also use these numbers to connect directly to EMS (SAMU): 15 Police: 17 Fire: 18 These are always posted on public phones, with picture logos. I think that 112 will work from any (Europe-connected) cell phone; I am less sure about the other three. Best wishes, Rex |
Rex is appalled
>For goodness sake, ira - - yourefer someone to google for this!?< How will missypie learn to do things for herself if she is just given an answer? |
Bonjour Missypie and everybody,
Here are the main emergency numbers for Paris and France. I wish you all never to have a need for them in your travels. http://www.smartweb.fr/fr/SurvivalTi...ergencyTel.asp Police : 17 Fire Brigade : 18 (for accidents, health emergencies, etc.) Samu (health service): 15 Doctors emergency : 01 47 07 77 77 Dental emergency : 01 43 37 51 00 Nurses emergency : 01 43 43 25 45 Anti-poison center : 01 40 37 04 04 Public ambulance service: 0140 44 43 45 American Hospital : 01 46 41 25 25 British Hospital : 01 46 39 22 22 |
We could all be googling everything, but it's more fun to read the boards!
|
I have preached this message plenty in the past myself, ira...
But it improves the forum if it is accompanied by some actual info... and especially since it could have been answered with three keystrokes, if YOU knew it... (?) If you had no idea, and had to look it up yourself, then I think "instructive" answers are more appropriate for a question that has gone unanswered for many, many hours... not pouncing on it in six minutes. I lecture thee, of things which have been lectured to me in the past... |
Fourty lashes to both Ira and Rex. You should both have googled and pasted the info ! ;-)
|
Florence,
Can we get Mel Gibson to make a movie about it? |
I was more into something like "Pirates of the Bateaux-Mouche" ...
|
Thank you, everyone. I am traveling with my children, so I need to be prepared for whatever may befall us. (We are staying in an apartment, so there will be no "front desk" to help us out.)
|
I google both Ira and Rex!
|
I could have said the same thing, google it, that is what I did..but I did go the step farther and paste the information...don't I get a pat on the back? :)

I don't know Scarlett - - if I had really wanted to know, I might have considered your URL irksome or to be distrusted - - and note that it does NOT give 112!
At a minimum, you might have let people know that your URL was a link to "The History of 9-1-1" When the info sought is short in length, I think it can/should be given first, and then if you want to credit the website where you found it, or the search engine approach you took, for instructional purposes, then do so - - that is a lot more friendly to newcomers. |
