Paris: 9/11 commemoration
I am a frequent visitor to the site, enjoy reading others' posts and opinions, post rarely myself (but when I do I always get good advice, for which I thank one and all).
My husband and I will be in Paris on September 11, and wondered if there would be any kind of commemoration event. And I found this: http://www.francetoday.com/articles/..._in_paris.html Well. We will be there. I apologize if someone has already posted about this; I did a search and found nothing, so I wanted to share. |
huh, I thought that would be really odd since it was an event in New York City. The US doesn't hold commemorations for the train bombings in Spain, or any terrorist event in the UK.
So it's some French expats who are living in the US holding a commemoration in France, kind of strange, but at least it's a nice sentiment. |
We were in Paris in October after 9/11 and I can't tell you how many Parisians had kind words of consolation and went out of there way to say so when they saw that we were Americans. It was very, very touching.

I was in Cannes last year on July 4th and I was surprised to see lots of American flags everywhere to celebrate. It was not expected and very generous of them.

Thanks for sharing, K.

wow, this takes me back...I was in Paris on August 11,2001 just one month before 9/11/2001. I remember thinking how grateful I was to be back on US soil during such a distressing and chaotic time. It would have have been so much more upsetting to have all that going on home and having no idea when I would have been able to get back to the US.
There may be a ceremony for the 10 year anniversary...American Embassy may have info?? I disagree with Christina, there are many world events that are noted, commemorated, etc...in countries other than where they happened. I wouldn't expect it (as everyone else seems to think we Americans do), but you may find something. If not, and you want to mark it in a small way on your own...do what you feel is appropriate (flowers at the Embassy, a candle lit in a church, a visit to see the Statue of Liberty replica, I am sure there are many ways). |
Sorry, just saw the link and misunderstood your post at first...well, as I said many other countries do commemorate significant events. I am sure it will be moving.

Thanks for posting this....we will arrive 9/10 and will plan to attend.
