My husband and i are traveling to europe with 7 children ages 11-19. On another forum i was convinced to limit our travel destinations and perhaps do some day trips from those locations. Which is a great idea. One of my locations is Paris. However as i am doing research the price for accomodations for 9 is killing me.

So i am wondering if we can do it backwards. Find a fun place outside of paris to stay and to paris as the day trip a couple of times. We will be coming from London then Paris then Rome then home. Our time in France is flexible but probably 4-5 days. (shorter if i cant find something cheaper)

One other option is to splurge in paris then go cheap in Rome. One of the Hostels there got a very good rating, but i have never done that. I would be up for it. the kids would probably really enjoy it, however my huband would take some convincing.

How many rooms do you want to use for the family? You are not giving much information for us to help you. And what kind of budget to you have?

In my neighborhood, I could put 9 people in 4 rooms for less than 120€ a night. No, it would not be luxurious.

I did not specify how many rooms, as it depends on the size of the room. A number of hotels i looked at dont allow more than 2 per room, which means 5 rooms. which adds up.

I would say i am looking for a mid range price. Nothing fancy, just clean and private baths. I would rather have a less fancy room with a better location then a beautiful room in a bad location.

kerouac, what neighborhood are you in. From what i looked at even 120 a night was pretty good.

www.vacationinparis.com has a couple of apartments including ones near one another that could accommodate 9 people. They do rent for less than one week. You could save money by eating some meals at the apartment, and some of your children are old enough to stay alone--especially in the same building with you.

yes - an apartment may be the answer for both cities. The addition of a kitchen 9usually small) could help defray expenses. Breakfast in Paris can add up for a family. Try VRBO.com as well.
