Exactly...trying to find one that overlooks the seine could be quite difficult. I can't even think of one that overlooks the Seine and I've stayed in the 6th since 1981. It'll be good if someone on this board knows of one. Now, I'm curious. Happy Travels!

I know nothing about these hotels other than their proximity to the Seine:

Hotel du Quai Voltaire definitely looks over the river and across to the Louvre. It is a nice moderate-priced hotel w/ all types of rooms from roomy and well furnished to tiny and basic. The rooms at the front (Seine side) cost much more than the interior rooms. Would not call it overly charming - but I've stayed there twice and would again if I wasn't going to rent a flat. I had excellent service and really enjoyed sitting inmy window and seeing the riverscape stretching from the Tulleries to Notre Dame and waving at the tour boats sailing by

The Quai Voltaire was the only one I thought of for sure, although there is at least one in the Latin Qtr, also (not that I'd ever stay right on the Seine there, but there is a 4* Hotel there). I think there could be others that overlook the Seine with balconies if you have a top floor room, but aren't necessarily locatged right on the quay along the Seine. I'd think there must be a couple like that, but I don't stay in St Germain so can't name one. I could be wrong, just seems possible.

Ditto on the fact that there is a busy street between the buildings of the 5th/6th and the Seine, so a balcony might expose you to noise and some fumes.
However, I can mention the Hotel LE Notre Dame (not LE, not DE..which is another charming hotel nearby). This hotel is in the 5th, on the street by the Seine, across the street from the RER station..and with superb views of Notre Dame...especially nice sunsets. We stayed in the top floor loft. There is a window with the views, and at this height we did not get much noise.

Yes - there is a busy street between the Quai Voltaire and the river. And also trees that block the view from lower floors. If one stays there, be sure to get a room on the top two floors. High enough to pretty much negate the traffic noise, and w/ a clear view of the river.
If I couldn't get room on the top 2 floors, I'd probably stay elsewhere.
