Paris

Hi all. There are two of us heading to Paris on Friday for three days. We are hoping to get some information on the best place to go shopping?

For what?

Not to be nasty if you are a first time user, but try doing a search on shopping and Paris in this forum. There is a ton of stuff already for every taste.

Yes, for what. And for how much. I think you need to be ready for sticker shock!!
But go to Galeries Lafayette and Printemps and enjoy.

Considering the person's moniker, maybe it's a new season of "The Simple Life".

You signed up on Fodor's just to ask about shopping?

I think shopping is a fun part of traveling.

I like the little shops surrounding St. Suplic and along the Rue des Frances Bougeois in the Marais area and for great window shopping I like to walk along Avenue Montaigne.

Enjoy!

Assuming this is just a typical tourist type shopping expedition and not couture or anything special (or you'd probably have personal assistants or advice on that), I also would suggest you go to the main dept stores if you just think you have to buy things because you are on vacation. As suggested above, two are behind the Opera Garnier (Galeries Lafayette and Printemps) right next to each other, and they are very well known.

There are even some street vendors right outside them where you can get some cheaper items, if you want. They are nothing particularly French or special, just cheap stuff from third world countries, but it seems to be easier to find sellers of that kind of thing in Europe than in US. I bought a nice red watch from one of them last time I was there, as I've got this watch fetish and didn't have a red one. 10 euro -- it was made in Japan, looked pretty nice even though nothing was "real" on it (gold, leather or diamonds).

give us something to work w/ here. "best" for what -- cheap? department stores? stylish clothing? housewares? posh? souviners? vintage/retro? What
