Have found this special from NYC for $369 plus taxes. The hotel gets good comments on tripadvisor. Near the Metro in the 12th. It would be a 1st overseas trip for 30 somethings

I've walked by that hotel numerous times and it looks pleasant enough. Other than the actual Bercy Village -- with its restored wine warehouses turned into a number of shops and restaurants, there really is surprisingly little in that area. But the metro can take you anywhere. At $60 a night it sounds like a real bargain, or is that per person for two people -- $120 a night?

By the way, that Bercy area I mentioned is filled with 30 somethings. While I only go there in the day and for lunch, I suspect it is overflowing with activity amongst the Parisian "yuppies" at night.

Sounds like a good deal. The Kyriad hotels are a chain, part of the Envergure group (www.envergure.fr) - so it's likely to be clean and functional although perhaps a bit charmless. I wouldn't mind for that price though!

Bercy village, despite being outside the central tourist belt, would be quite a decent place to stay I think. It is on metro line 14, which is the super fast, modern, driver-less line. Very handy for getting into central Paris quickly.

There are various restaurants and bars there, plus a few shops (gardening, home decoration, that sort of thing) and a huge multiplex UGC cinema that always shows some films in the original language ("VO") with subtitles. You'd have various choices of eateries in the evenings if you didn't want to stray too far from your hotel. As Patrick says, there are lots of thirtysomethings at Bercy village - you'll probably be rubbing shoulders with more locals than tourists. Oh, and lots of British ex-pats hang out at the English "Frog" pub there.
Also, Bercy park is nearby, which is a nice place for a stroll.

Ira; thanks for the little extra info that you always provide.
As you may recall I took a Gate1 tour to Italy at Thanksgiving. It was great as I wrote in my trip report.
This is listed on their website under "more deals" this week.
The trip is for my son and wife.
