This pdf file was emailed to subscribers (free) of the http://paris-eiffel-tower-news.com website. It lays to rest once and for all the question of decent/central rooms in Paris for the approximate price of 100€/double. Not all of them will pass 'muster' re: Tripadvisor comments, but many will. No, not many located in St Germain des Pres. (there are many other areas of Paris with decent neighborhoods and location, yes it's true ;) ). I noticed quite a few hotels with reasonable prices for triples and quads as well. You have to open each hotel website to get that detail, but at least the list is all pulled together for you and organized 3 ways (alpha, price, location). Kudos to the author for his efforts! |

Are there any absolute favorites on this list? I recognize Hotel St Jacques and Hotel des Balcons from many posts. We like 3* hotels, but the next trip may be travelling with friends who may be on a stricter budget than us. This would be a good way to research appropriate hotels.

I will list a few of the hotels that 'seem' to be the best choices.
I base my opinion on internet research and general familiarity with some of Paris, and having experienced 2* hotels in the past. I would definitely compare my list to comments on Fodors and Tripadvisor, as those are made by people who have actually stayed at the hotels. Some of these have recently been added to Parisby.com, which I think is a good sign. Not very many have minibars/frigos, which I personally look for. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Hotel Louvre Forum - 1st http://www.paris-hotel-louvre-forum.com/ Can't get more central than this, and says it has A/C and minibars Hotel Vieux Marais - 4th http://www.paris-hotel-vieux-marais.com Website says they have renovated; very good location behind Pompidou and BHV; has applied for 3* classification and prices are showing it Hotel Andre Latin - 5th http://www.andre-latin-paris-hotel.com/ Recently refurbished and in a good location. Hotel du Bresil - 5th http://www.bresil-paris-hotel.com/ Recently refurbished and in a good location. Triple 105E or less Hotel de Senlis - 5th http://www.paris-hotel-senlis.com Recently refurbished and in a good location. Triple 107E or less Hotel Cujas Pantheon - 5th http://www.hotelcujaspantheon.com/ Rooms look 'refreshed' in the photos, located right by the Pantheon (area could be too busy) Triple 128E or less Hotel Carofftel Gobelins - 5th (near 13th) http://www.carofftel-paris-hotel.com/ could be a nice alternative for 'off beaten path'; Triple 115E or less Hotel Chaplain Rive Gauche - 6th (near Montparnasse) http://www.chaplain-paris-hotel.com/ I believe this one was recently refurbished (within a couple of years) and is a less expensive alternative for near St Germain Triple 123E or less, Quad 133E or less Hotel Royal Opera - 8th http://www.paris-hotel-royalopera.com/ just behind Madeleine, good Rive Droit location, has minibars - is breakfast 'included'? it isn't listed separately on the rates sheet Hotel de Hollande - 9th http://www.paris-hotel-hollande.com furnishings look a bit more 'upscale' - photos reliable? claims to have larger-than-average rooms very busy location - rue Cadet @ Grands Blvds Triple 130E / Quad 160E (or less) Hotel Helvetia - 12th http://www.helvetia-paris-hotel.com/ convenient for Gare Lyon and Bastille Triple for 120E or less Hotel Innova - 15th http://www.innova-paris-hotel.com/ Triple 130E or less, Quad 155E or less To avoid: <u>Hotel des Arts</u> in Montmartre seems to be notorious for 'walking' customers, so no telling where you will end up <u>Popular/ better-known hotels:</u> Hotel de Suez http://www.paris-hotel-desuez.com/ Hotel Saint Jacques http://www.paris-hotel-stjacques.com/ Hotel le Clement http://www.clement-moliere-paris-hotel.com/ Grand Hotel des Balcons http://www.paris-hotel-grandbalcons.com/ Hotel France Albion http://www.albion-paris-hotel.com/#IN |

I was surprised to see Hotel St Jacques on the list as I thought it was a three star. I've stayed there and it's defiitly one of my favorite hotels in Paris.
Also, re the confusion sometimes about the Hotel des Arts in Montmartre (which is on the list, and which people often say should be avoided) and Hotel St Andre des Arts in the 6th (which is NOT on the list). St Andres des Arts is actually a one star hotel but should be considered by people looking at this list. I think it's a one star because of lack of elevator. As the article stated, the star rating is not for quality but for the presense or absence of certain things, like a lift. The St Andres des Arts is of the same quality as many of the hotels on the list. |

Paris is one of the 3 cheapest cities in Europe for 1 & 2-star hotels. It is in middle range for 3-star hotels. And it is the #1 most expensive city for 4-star hotels.

This is a great resource but I'm wondering where Hotel Jeanne d'Arc is. I understood it to be a 2 star for under 100E so I'm not sure why it isn't included in the list. Any opinions?

That is a nice list even though about a year old.
That isn't a list from the city, it's a private list made by someone, it appears. If you want an official list of 2* hotels, you should go to the Paris Tourist Info website. Jeanne d'Arc probably isn't on there because in order to be included, it appears you have to have a website. I don't think they do. He may have started his list by getting 2* hotels from the Paris Tourist Office, and going to their websites as the links are posted on there if they have one. Jeanne d'Arc doesn't have one. |
