Paris 14th Hotel Le Royal

I was looking for a hotel close to Luxembourg Garden on the Paris Guides de Charme and came across the Hotel Le Royal Montparnasse Luxembourg. From the pictures and description on the hotel's website it looks ideal. I've searched the forum for opinions but found very little. I would appreciate any comments on this particular hotel.

I don't know this hotel per se, but the hotel I have used my last two trips is very close to it. The location is very near the intersection of Blvd Raspail and Montparnasse.
Technically, the hotel is in the 14th.
But 6th is at the corner.
You will find plenty of activity along Boulevard Montparnasse at night, and the Gardens are a short distance away.
I like my hotel and its location; this one might be even better.

That is an area I stay in frequently, also, so I know the location is good. What is the address of this hotel? I know a Royal hotel on bd Raspail in-between bd Edgar Quinet and the bd Montparnasse intersection and I know it was recently extensively renovated a few years ago and looks pretty nice (from the outside). I think it is sort of Art Deco styling. That address would be something around 220 bd Raspail, I imagine. I have never heard of it with the word "Luxembourg" attached to it, however. You can walk to the gardens from there without much trouble, of course, but I wouldn't call it being right near Luxembourg Gardens. There are other hotels much closer.

The address for the hotel is 212 Boulevard Raspail. Hopefully this is the hotel you are familiar with.

hi gary -- yes that is the hotel I was thinking of, I checked the address.

I wonder if you are looking at the hotel's own web site as I did www.hotelleroyal.com? Because they don't seem to call it Royal Montparnasse Luxembourg, either. They do have some good internet special rates you might check.

As I said, they did a lot of renovations a few years ago, but those have been finished a while. It's not exactly Art Deco, but I knew the lobby area (which is all I've seen) is rather spiffy/modern looking.

There are a couple good comments on www.paris.org/hotels if you want to check (be sure to look at the 3* Royal). There are also about a dozen on digital.france.com/Hotels or
http://www.france.com/hotels/hotel.cfm?hotel_id=982

They are pretty good but it seems there are some rather small rooms, as typical, so you might want to go for a superior if you can.

The location is very convenient for transportation and some nice big traditional cafes on bd Montparnasse. La Rotonde is my favorite, I like Le Dome for breakfast.

Thanks for the information. Christina, I took your advice in regards to room size and reserved a junior suite.
