Paris 11eme ?
We have been to Paris many times but have never stayed in 11eme ( close to
Saint-Ambroise metro stop). During the day we'll be visiting museums, galleries etc., at night , I would prefer not to take the Metro again. Could anyone recommend a few places to eat at in the walking distance ( half an hour or so) from S-A? We are not on a budget, but still don't wish to spend 100 euros on dinner every day. |

I like Repaire de Cartouche--incredible wine list and very good food. Depending how close and which side of Saint-Amboise station your apartment is, it'd be about a 5-10 minute walk.

Le Clown Bar near the Cirque d'Hiver (métro Filles du Calvaire).

thanks again.

The 11th is an interesting working class arrondissement. There is no lack of restaurants or brasseries or holes in the wall serving excellent fare cheaply. I think it would be a waste of time to write down specific addresses.
I have lived in Paris for more than 35 years and have not ever spent 100 euros for dinner. At the moment, my restaurant tab usually runs no more than 15-18 euros per person, often less. And yes, that is including wine. |
thanks kerouac. We'll look around.
We usually spend 50-60 euros max.( for two). |
danon, I apologize--the recommendation I gave you is for a more expensive restaurant. It's a place to go if you like wine and are looking for a "fancier" (though it's not fancy) place within walking distance.
Enjoy your trip! |
David in Paris, don't know if he still posts here but he lives in the 11th.

Bistrot du Peintre, 116 avenue Ledru-Rollin
Au Vieux Chêne, 7 rue du Dahomey |
thanks all
Leey2, no need to apologize. once or twice during the trip we like to go to a more expensive place and splurge!. |
I agree with Kerouac, there are tons of restaurants around, it won't be difficult finding one. Besides, that is right on the border of the Marais, so that is certainly within a half hour walk, also (going west). Clown Bar is small and often booked up, though, so if you really want to go there, reservations might be advised. It doesn't look like the kind of place you'd expect that, but I have noticed often all tables have reserved signs on them -- it is small.

thanks Christina,
you are right about Marais ! We have never been to Oberkampf or Canal Saint-Martin areas of Paris. I understand there are many restaurants and cafes in both locations. |
