Paris - Montalembert or Bel Ami

Rates are about the same - we are a young couple, not our first time in France, looking for something hip and luxurious. Thanks.

I have never stayed at either hotel. But the Montalembert seems to be a larger hotel than the Bel Ami. I did pass by the Bel Ami and thought it looked 'cold' since the style is what is called minimalist? I saw photos of the Montalembert and the decor seems much nicer to me. I guess you could check for comments at Trip Advisor if you haven't done so already. Also the Montalembert is by Pont Royal whereas the Bel Ami is in the heart of St. Germain if that matters.

Bel Ami is a slighter better location. In both hotels, the standard rooms are postage stamp size so I would consider paying a bit more for the next category up. Other than that, I would go where you get the best deal as they are both terrific choices

I haven't stayed at either, think they are both good locations. My understanding from reading their web site was that Mantalembert has two styles of rooms -- one is very modern, and the other more like Louis Philippe, and that you'd have to specify decor if you really wanted one kind over another.

While I would trust jodys word on this, I did love the rooms in the Montalembert.
This is indeed, a hard choice

Haven't stayed at Montalembert, but a few personal notes about Bel Ami:
nice service, nice breakfast (better than a lot of hotel breakfasts), nice to have the computers for free Internet access in the salon (if they still do that), comfortable beds. A few minuses: did not like that wand/swizzle stick shower nozzzle. Hard to control, tended to spray around the bathroom. Lighting was a little dim. If you are the type of person who likes *bright* lights in your room, the Bel Ami will drive you bonkers. If you like subdued lighting, it will be right up your alley.

These hotels may be modern in style, but are not the truly hot spots, they've been around a while. THE hippest hotel in town is the new Hotel Sezz on 6 Avenue Fremiet. Modern, luxury zen decor, with a spa for hotel guest use only. Promotional rates put in the same price bracket as the Bel Ami and Montalembert.
