Parc Monceau apartment
 

I've just put a hold on this apartment near Parc Monceau just inside the 8th arrondissement through Vacations in Paris. Can anyone tell me if this is in a good location? We're traveling in May so most of the better apartments in the 5th, 6th, 7th are booked. Any info would be appreciated. My head is swimming with anxiety about this

Hi normal, last September we stayed at the Hilton Champs Elysees (company paid, so not our choice of location), which is quite close to Parc Monceau - we passed the gate to the park every day on the way to the metro. We were within easy walking distance of the Champs Elysees and Arc de Triomphe. If you are quite energetic and enjoy walking, you can walk all the way down the Champs Elysees to the Tuileries and the Louvre. There will certainly be a metro station close to you, but we found that we were at least two metro lines away from most of the other major attractions. It also seemed to be primarily an office/residential neighborhood, with very few restaurants or shops. What I'm saying is that the location is fine (and Parc Monceau is lovely) but just be prepared for some long subway rides to get where you want to go. It took us around half an hour to get to St. Germain, the Eiffel Tower, Ile de la Cite, etc. but other than the time I wouldn't say the location detracted from our visit in any way.

Well, being in proximxity to the Champs Elysées is no plus in my opinion, but the Parc Monceau area is a very lovely neighborhood, so no reason for anxiety. You can walk to the Jacquemart-André museum for Sunday brunch!

The only problem with staying near the Parc Monceau is that sometimes the smell of money becomes a might powerful.

I suggest saving a Sunday for brunch at www.musee-jacquemart-andre.com/jandre/

Also look for antique fairs near the Monceau metro.

I'll third the recommendateioin for lunch at Jacquemart-Andre. It's the only place we've ever had a sit-down lunch in Paris. Fabulous salads - don't miss. Reserve ahead. We've had lunch there twice.

Parc Monceau is perfectly safe - mainly enhabited by nannies with their charges.

And you will be just next door to my favorite museum in Paris. The Camondo. Lucky you indeed.

I think that's one of the most charming parks in all of Paris. We once did a self-guided walking tour all around it and through the neighborhood. It's a wonderful area.

In my opinion, it's a great location. We visited twice in this area in 1999 and like it quite well. Rue de Levis is a market street at the end closest to metro Villiers - there are Monoprix stores, and plenty of restaurants, cafes.. AND Parc Monceau, which is very lovely. OK, it isn't so close to 'sights' but we did walk to Galeries Lafayette and Opera G. area from there...

Great, great location, beautiful and interesting. You can easily visit the Nissim de Camondo museum and the unmissable Jacquemart-André.
