Paper Store in Paris?
 

Leaving for Paris in 12 days... haven't planned much, am just going for the pure fun (and sheer luck!) of it all.

I have questions, but am trying to be good & do my research before asking the typical ones. Though, what I cannot find are any good leads on a paper store in Paris... nothing in Born to Shop, Frommers, Fodors... Google-ing or searching here gets me funny things about paper, but not an address to a stationary store.

The equivilant of Il Papiro in Venice is what I'm hoping for. Any Fodorite leads? We're staying in the 10th by Canal St. Martin if that helps.

This one looks perfecto, magnifico! I mean, fantastico...err, great! It's hard to lose my (limited) Italian and pick up French in a month's notice... anyway...

www.papierplus.com looks great unless someone has another favorite?

BHV on rue de Rivoli and Le Bon Marché at Sèvres Babylone also have good stationery (papeterie) departments.

Marie Papier (www.mariepapier.fr) has some very good stuff.

But one of the very best places to go is rue du Pont Louis Philippe in the 4th arrondissement -- a street with 3 quirky stationers, at numbers 6, 9 and 10.

One easy option is Virgin Megastore, believe it or not. The stores are very different from other international versions of the chain, as they were taken over by a major French publisher, who ran a competing chain called Extrapole with a fantastic stationery section. When the chains merged under the Virgin name, the stationery option was retained (except, I think, for the store on the Champs Elysées).

There is a nice stationer's in the Rue George V, about 2-3 blocks from the Champs Elysees, on the opposite side of the street from Louis Vuitton.

To buy stationEry (your searches might be more successful with the correct spelling) in France, you go to a store called a <<papeterie>>.

Bon Marche has a fabulous stationery section. I bought gorgeous cards, blank notebooks and all kinds of fun stuff there.

Thanks! Certainly taking this list with me. I'm shocked that in 4 guidebooks - Insight Paris, Fodors 2008, Frommers & Suzy G - I didn't see any, but the fodorites have great finds!

Point well taken Rex - since I was squishing in my Paris research after midnight and I'm a 8-5 worker I'll let that be my excuse :)

I'm thinking of starting a trip blog-like thread so I know I'll write a trip report... so look for more from this last minute traveler!

I don't know if it adds to the stores mentioned above, but check out an AccessParis guidebook. I recall that it mentions some stationary shops.

I came home (if my luggage really was delivered to the office last night!) with many things from Paris, but not paper!

I saw 2 of the great ones you guys listed for me, but each time we were in the 'end of the day, been on our feet for 8 hours, get back to hotel to freshen up for dinner' rush. So I skipped them both thinking I would pass another. The last one I wandered by on Cite was only for business-card type things, having stationery made, etc.

So :( I will enjoy my honey, macaroons, chocolate, wine, Chartruese... but no Parisian paper.

I have such an enormous list of things "I meant to get" while traveling (not just in Europe) - - a combination of "didn't get around to going looking for them" -- and "didn't buy them the first time when I saw them - - and never got back to that place to get them afterwards"...

If I had actually bought all those things on that list - - I'd have to have another house!

...not to mention that I would have needed another income!
