Palermo to Valle dei Templi at Agrigento Day Trip
We will be in Palermo in late April 2006 and would like to do a day trip to Agrigento. From previous posts, I understand that the bus to Agrigento is easily available from Palermo but my question is where does the bus stop?
I seem to recall a comment regarding the bus stopping in Agrigento town but needing to take a second bus to Valle dei Templi. Can anyone advise on this please? Our alternative was to take a day excursion from Palermo to Agrigento possibly including another stop but the only one I can find goes on a Thursday which unfortunately doesn't fit our plans. Any advice gratefully received. Clara |
In this thread, which does date back to 2003, GAC suggests the train rather than the bus. The important thing, as he stresses, is to get off at the correct train station in Agrigento (there are two).
GAC is this forum's Italian transportation guru, and I totally trust anything he suggests. |

Thank you Eloise - that is just the information I needed.

From Palermo to Agrigento, there is both train and bus service daily.
Travel time is virtually identical, as is the fare. Buses depart Palermo from a side street of the train station (Via Balsamo). If you take the train, there is a local city bus from directly (30 yards) outside the train station (Agrigento Centrale; NOT Agrigento Bassa) which takes you down the hill to the Archeological Museum and the Greek Temples. You can purchase a ticket for the local bus from the tobacconist/newsstand at the Agrigento train station. If you take the bus from Palermo, you must walk 300 yards to connect to the local city bus. My personal preference is to take the train, but the bus would be fine as well. |
Eloise: your compliments are very generous. Thanks very much.

GAC: You're very welcome. The compliments are not generous; you've earned them.
