Palermo Sicily Hotel Location??

Does anyone know if Grand Hotel Piazza Borsa is in an area that is safe for walking at night to bars and restaurants? I read that the area between Via Roma and Via Ruggero Settimo near Piazza Verdi is safe and there are lots of bars and restaurants, but this hotel appears to be a 1/2 mile south on Via Roma.

Or I am also open to other hotel recommendations. We are seeking a 4-5 star hotel with a king bed.

Thank you very much for your help, Inor

I really liked the location of our hotel, the Grand Hotel Wagner, near Politeama and between the old and new cities. There are a number of hotels and B & Bs in this area. Lots of activity in the vicinity of the Teatro Massimo, a short walk away. You can click on my name for my 2010 trip report.

Thank you for your response. Grand Hotel Wagner was actually my first choice of hotel, but they don't have King Sized beds. My husband is large, and we aren't comfortable in a smaller bed.

Grand Hotel Piazza Borsa has King Sized beds but isn't exactly in the same area. That is why I was asking to see if anyone knew how that location compares.

You're welcome! I also prefer a king-sized bed but am comfortable with the larger-than-queen-sized matrimoniale beds. You might check with Vagabonda and other locals on the Sicily Tripadvisor forum for additional recommendations.

That area would have had to have changed a GREAT deal since I was there to feel safe and convenient, but I haven't been there since 2007, so it is very possible that it HAS changed. Sorry I can't be more informative....

I stayed near Piazza Marina at Hotel Falkensteiner - Palazzo Sitano, not that far from your hotel. It was fine walking around at night (not really late, but after dinner). This was four years ago. Our taxi driver told us to keep our purses across our bodies and inside our coats when he dropped us off at the hotel from the airport. That's what we did, and we stayed on major thoroughfares when it was late. No problems.

We liked our hotel, got a great rate, excellent breakfast, but had to pay for wifi. I thought the location was incredibly convenient for sightseeing.
