Palermo Hotel wanted

Hi: Old member, spent most of the last few years reading, as I always found answers. Not this time.

This will be my first trip to Sicily. Looking for recommendations for a hotel in Palermo for my wife and me. Four night stay. In May. Strong air-conditioner and an elevator are musts. Price range, usually 3 star prices.

We're still walking and exploring, but as we have gotten older, we walk slower. As to location, our definition of a good location typically would be close to the main historic centers.

Since we will be there for 4 nights, an apartment meeting the A/C, elevator and location criteria would also work.

Thanking all Foderites in advance.

Steve

I trust you realize that you can limit your search to accommodations with A/C and elevator when you search on booking.com. Location, too.

"Price range, usually 3 star prices."

Star rating doesn't correlate to room rate. Stars are assigned based on a specific list of amenities. So what is your actual budget?

booking.com also lets you specify price range and star rating.

We stayed in the downtown area of Politeama/Libertà with plentiful acco and dining choices, and walking distance to the Old Town (relatively busier and crowded). You can use a site like booking.com, narrowing down search parameters basis your needs.

Why so rude? I'm guessing he's already looked at hotel booking websites. He's asking for personal recommendations. Is that so hard? I'd offer one, but the only hotel I've stayed at in Palermo is no longer in business.

I'm always surprised by the number of people who do not know that booking.com is a reliable source of information or that they can set filters such as having A/C or elevator access or price range or number of stars or "guests' favvorite area", etc.

I generally believe that providing someone with a tool is of greater benefit than providing them with an "answer" that might not actually suit (though I'd offer a recommendation if the hotel where I stayed was one that met the OP's criteria.)

I'm also always surprised when someone suggests that a post intended to be helpful is "rude."

@ bocacpa: If my responses seemed rude, forgive me -- they were not intended to be anything other than helpful.

I honestly don't see any rude comments. Just trying to give and get useful info

In 2019 we had a wonderful stay at this B & B: https://www.atmosferepuniche.com/en. The woman who runs it is delightful and her breakfasts were delicious. She has several rooms in her lovely, eclectic apartment which is in a beautifully renovated building. The building has good security and an elevator. The location is about two blocks up from one of the main walking streets which has lots of restaurants and shops and is a lovely place to stroll. We booked through booking.com and the reviews there remain excellent.

Enjoy Palermo!

Since you mention apartments, we stayed here for four nights last May and were really happy with it. There is an elevator and AC. We did not need to use the AC in May, but other guests mention that it works well in their reviews. We thought the location was excellent -- in the historical center, walkable to most sites, the harbor and many good restaurants. Very responsive host who is easy to communicate with and provides a lot of recommendations for making the most of your time in Palermo, including some of her own notes for self-guided tours. It is, however, already somewhat booked up for this coming May.

Thank you for your responses. I know I did not indicate a budget - because I did not want to limit suggestions.

My sister and her husband have good taste in accommodations and they get many ideas from Italian friends; they love this place, with personalized service:

Casa Tarzana had 4 nites that magically fit our calendar and we booked with them. Thank you ms_go, KTtravel and ekscrunchy for sharing your experiences.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. We didn't meet the owners, but they were very easy to communicate with.

In case it's helpful, I have a trip report here with lots of photos, including a few from or in the streets near the apartment: Two weeks in Sicily, May 2024

Casa Tarzana sounds like a great choice. I hope you have a wonderful trip.
