Palazzo del Capitano just cancelled our reservation!!! Now what?

I just posted last night on this forum that I was thinking of changing our reservations for June from Palazzo del Capitano to somewhere else and this morning I had an email from them that they had made a "mistake" and already booked another couple into the room we reserved and there were no other rooms available! They offered a room in their annex for 'part' of our stay! Is this a coincidencs???!!! Or not! I can't believe this!

Hi rbn,

I have been a guest at this hotel many times and have always found the staff helpful....I suggest a phone call during the week, maybe tomorrow, and ask for Laura or Arianna. They speak very good English and could hopefully help solve your problem. Also, wondered if you had seen the post about Casa Lemmi the other day. It is a few doors down from Palazzo...I have walked by it...maybe it could be an alternative if Palazzo doesn't work out??

I looked at Casa Lemmi and am just not sure. Anyone else with ideas? This is soo disappointing and my head is spinning with questions about where to stay now!

bobthenavigator Jan 28th, 2007 12:22 PM

My my--let me try.
I like the idea of Palazina Cesari if you want to stay in town. I alos like Posta Marcucci just 3 miles from San Quirico in Bagno Vignoni--a spa hotel.
If you want a rural B&B then find Le Traverse south of Pienza--she is big help. A bit more, but nice, is Villa Cicolini near Montepulciano. Good luck--holler if you need more help.

Thank you, bob! I am wondering if we should take the annex of Palazzo del Capitano for our final 3 days but I am so mad at them that I kind of don't want to. But this forum has me convinced that this is the best area in Tuscany to stay. I will check out your other recommendations.

WillTravel Jan 28th, 2007 07:00 PM

rbnwdln, is your real name close enough to your moniker that Palazzo del Capitano could have read your post and decided to do this? It does seem a little weird!

rbnwdln Jan 28th, 2007 07:09 PM

Very weird, I agree. OK, bob, I checked out your recomendations. Can't find your first recomendation, Palazina Cesari and I remembered that the Cicolini had no rooms at the inn when I checked months ago. Of the remaining, which do you like best. Any other ideas? AAArrrrgggghhhhh!

How about the magnificent La Saracina right between Pienza and Montepulciano?

Magnificent, yes! Unfortunately, three times the price of Capitano...Wish I could. Thanks.

bobthenavigator Jan 29th, 2007 06:28 AM

Gee, I thought that the Casa Lemmi looked interesting. Why not make a pick between that and the annex and stay in San Quirico. Le Traverse is nice but is a rural B&B---the owner is very helpful. The best buy is Palazzina Cesari in Montalcino---a nice B&B for about 100E.

rbnwdln Jan 29th, 2007 06:52 AM

Bob,
I emailed Casa Lemmi and Capitano with your exact suggestion. I'll see what happens.

rbnwdln Jan 30th, 2007 07:14 PM

Well, Casa Lemmi has availability and I am wanting to stay there for 2 nights and the final two in the annex at Capitano. Now I just need Capitano to answer my 3 emails. I will call them tomorrow if I don't hear from them. Thanks for the help.

Say hi to my old timer buddies at Bar Centrale.

StuDudley Jan 31st, 2007 09:33 AM

Bob

Our friends who own Bella Casa in San Quirico said that the Bar Centrale was sold to someone "else". Some of the locals are having trouble accepting the new owners - but I'm sure that will pass. Great new restaurant opened up across the street last year. However, they are outsiders, and were not pulling in the local crowds that they deserve. Our friends think it's the best restaurant in SQ, and it was the best of the 6 in the immediate area that we tried last year.

Grazie Stu, Is that new place named Il Tinao--or something like that?

StuDudley Jan 31st, 2007 10:51 AM

Nope - Il Tinano is on the same side of the street as the Bar Centrale. This place is directly across the street. It's on a corner, just like Bar Centrale. Our friends are on a road trip through the southwest US, on their newly purchased 5 weeler. I'll e-mail them to find out the name of the resturant.

Hmmm ! What is a 5 wheeler?
Tell Georgia to be safe.

StuDudley Jan 31st, 2007 01:49 PM

A 5 wheeler is a large trailer that attaches to their truck. It expands into a larger trailer when parked & not moving. They are traveling with their dog - appropriatly named "Dudley" Sounds like something from the late 60s.

Here's the e-mail back from our friends about the "new" restaurant in San Quirico:

ciao, Sue. It's La Bottega di Ciacco. 30a via Dante Alighieri 0577-89.73.12
ciao, Georgia

Don't ask about the "Sue" - too long a story.
