Palazzo al Velabro in Rome--I've booked this hotel and am now worried about room security. Need input from recent guests, please!

I have booked this hotel for 6 nights in May but upon just reading the guest reviews posted in the hotels section on this site (don't know why I didn't see them earlier), I'm concerned about room security. Two guests in 2003 reported that other peoples' room keys opened their rooms and vice versa. Maybe the hotel has fixed this problem--I intend to email them about it--but I'd sure like to hear from any guests. Melinda from Washington, DC posted a favorable review last month and maybe she or someone else can help me out.

The website says the hotel has lifts but one of the 2003 reviewers said that you have to walk up a long flight of stairs to get to the reception. I'd also like to know if that's still the case--maybe the lifts weren't there in 2003?

Help, help, please, I have to decide whether to book other accomodations.

I want to share what the hotel told me in response to my inquiry. They said that they had problems with keys two years ago (which corresponds with the time the posters were there and they were there at the same time) but that they replaced all the locks on the apartments. They also said that it's five steps up to where the elevator is. So we're going to stay there and I'll report on it after we return for anyone who's interested.

Hi Ruth,

Sorry you didn't get more response to this. Have you tried TripAdvisor?
Here's a link to your hotel's page there;

Only one review - but it's a goodie!

Yes, I have checked tripadvisor but dit not post this question there. I'm satisfied with the answer from the hotel--they acknowledged there had been a problem but said they had corrected it. I was worried about the lock situation because we had a similar incident some years ago in Quebec City. We rented an apartment hotel room which was in a separate building from the reception and about 10 pm someone unlocked our door. It was hard to get any more sleep that night and the desk people seemed completely unconcered when we reported it the next day--checking out a day early.
