Palais Garnier - Scored tickets...where am i sitting?
Hi,
I am so excited for our trip. I wanted to be able to experience the opera while in Paris and when the tickets first went on sale for Hansel Et Gretel at the Palais Garnier they appeared sold out. For a whim I went back online today and lo and behold there were two consecutive tickets available. I feel like I just won the lottery! The seating chart doesn't give precise location. Anyone that has been there, can you give me a rough idea of where I am sitting? Our tickets are for 2 emes loges de cote 2 - Place 1 and 2. I believe that is the second box on the second level on the side, front row. How do I tell where the second box is? Do the go consecutively front to back? Starting on the left or right facing away from the stage? Are these good seats? Thanks! |
Here is the seating map: http://www.operadeparis.fr/pratique/...x_et_plans.php

If you bought tickets, there was a photo shown online to give you a general idea of the view from that location, which would tell you if you are on the right or left side of the stage, in any case.
That looks like the box is no. 2, which is the very first one, I believe, closest to the stage (I think the numbers go up towards the center, or rear, in other words, the higher number boxes are at the bottom of the horseshoe shape or closest to the lobby). Even numbers are on the right (as you face the stage) and odd number boxes on the left. I do believe places 1 and 2 are the seats in the front of the box, at least. It is the second loge level, which I think is about the 3rd level as there is some other level with a different name below. If you are asking how you tell where it is when you get there, they have numbers on them, of course. In any case, the photo they gave you when you bought should make it clear if that is the very first box next to the stage, which I think it is, and I think on the left facing away from the stage. If you've been to an opera or theater, you would know how you feel about those seats, they would not be for me as they are too close to the stage at an extreme angle and fairly high up. But it could be a lot worse as there are 1-2 more levels above that, and at least it is the front seats. |
BTW looking at that section map, it should be clear whether box 2 is closest to the stage or closest to the loges en face section, as they have different prices.

Thanks! I totally didn't catch that the little photo was the view of the stage from my seats and not just decorative. So all in all not too bad though I agree maybe a little extreme angle wise. Choice was fairly limited - they only had contiguous seats in category 3 and I just checked and all that is left are single seats, so all in all not too bad.
