THEY DISCOVERED THE PAINTINGS MISSING WHEN THEY FOUND A WINDOW AND DOOR HAD BEEN UNLOCKED. THATS SOME FINE SECURITY SYSTEM THERE . ONLY $618 MILLION WORTH OF PAINTINGS SO IT'S NO BIG DEAL.

Yes, the Palais de Toyko (Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris) had virtually no security. The paintings have no commercial value, so putting a price on them is ridiculous.

Generally such things are recovered in 6 to 24 months.

Palais de Tokyo, of course, not Toyko.

"Generally such things are recovered in 6 to 24 months."

Tell that to the folks at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.

When you read about how many times a painting like Munch's "The Scream" has been stolen and then retrieved, I find it likely that these will be back before long. The only people art thieves can negotiate with are the insurance companies -- but most of these paintings are uninsurable.

Yeah, maybe they'll be returned right after the Gardner Vermeer and Rembrandt in Boston...20 years and counting.

ABC Nightly News said there were reports these Paris paintings may not have been insured either.
