Padua in June-request for lodging advice

I will be attending a conference at the University of Padua for 5 days in June. I would like some advice regarding where to stay that is convenient but will still allow for a pleasant stay. Do not know whether it would be wise to stay in a nearby town, villa, Venice, Verona or look for something in the city centre. I will get a car if that gives me a good blend of holiday and not too long a commute to the conference. Any suggestions as to good hotels in the area? Any other suggestions would be gratefully accepted

Hello MyBro, assuming that you will be at your conference daily from morning until late afternoon I would stay in Padua (Padova is the Italian name for this city) as the commute traffic morning and evening is quite heavy and slow. Padova is a lovely city and since you probably will be there during the week you will find plenty of restaurnats, cafes etc to enjoy and it is an easy city to walk around in. If you have any time before or after your conference you could train into Venice or to Verona etc. to visit those cities.

If your conference is going to be say just half a day each day than you might want to stay somewhere else part of the time but I would use the train instead of a rental car unless you will be able to avoid the morning and early evening commute.

Stayed at Hotel Al Cason, Via F.P. Sarpi 40, Padova, 35138, barely ten minutes walk from the station, remarkably large rooms for the good rates - a nice business hotel close to transportation and walkable to most of the city.

I would suggest you stay in Padova and make daytrips from there rather than the opposite, but we don't know about the time you'll be spending at the conference, and just where that take place.

We have stayed many times at the Hotel Donatello in Padua. It is right across the street from Saint Anthony's Basillica and an easy walk to the University. Padua is a very intersting town, good restaurants and an easy train ride to Venice and Verona. The hotel has made many updates over the years and is a lovely hotel with a helpful staff. If you do get a car, they have a garage, but you really don't need one in Padua. In June, you might want to take the Brenta Canal tour which is a full day's tour between Padua and Venice. It goes either way along the canal stopping at three Palladian Villas along the way. A great trip on a nice day.
