Padua - Day trip?

We will be in rome for 4 nights. do you think i would be too rushed to include a side trip to Padua? If we do go, we'd like to visit St. Anthony.

Padua is very close to Venice but a 3 hour or so each way train trip from Rome - so if you do not mind spending six hours on a train then yes it is possible - the Shrine of St Anthony to me was very very awesome as were several other churches in to me an otherwise ordinary modern northern Italian town.

Awfully long day trip. Possible, yes. Advisable, No.

With only 4 days in Rome, I think it would be foolish to take such a long side trip. Surely there are places you could meet up with St. Anthony in Rome.

St Anthony is great, as is Padua, but not for a Rome trip. There are so many other great churches much closer. Save it for next year. We based ourselves there one year for a week, and did Venice and Ravenna also. But if you determine you want to do it-make sure you also go to the Cappella degli Scrovegni. Now that is worth the trip. Book tickets ahead.
