Padua
 

We will be staying in Padua for only one night on our way to Garda Lake. Does anyone have a suggestion for a hotel ? It doesn't have to be upscale, just clean and comfortable, and easily accessible as we will be driving , so parking availability would be great too!

I can't help with a hotel suggestion... Just be aware that Padova has a ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone). Unfortunately, the official website is only in Italian.

As Jean said, the only hotel I've used is well inside the ZTL.

However just a hop and a step away

casaacolorivenezia.com‎ is over on the Brenta canal and there is a fine restaurant just 1km south of this converted nunnery (queue joke about getting in the habit)

Just about anyway in Albano Therme (high rise tends to be expensive) and you get the spas

Wonderful rooms and bathrooms, great location for walking the city in the short time you have but parking could be a problem as it is in the ZTL. No elevator.

Abano Terme and Montegrotto Terme is great for relaxation and a short drive to Padova. Arqua Petrarca is a lovely village, as well. As suggested, the Riviera del Brenta has hotels with parking that could make the drive into Padova painless.

About 4 years ago we stayed at Hotel Belludi 37. http://www.belludi37.it/en/ I'd go back to Padova for many reasons but this hotel might be on the top of the list. Love, love, loved it! I hope it hasn't changed in the intervening years but at the time, the staff could give lessons in hospitality. The room had a modern twist in a old setting. The location was almost around the corner from St. Anthony Basilica. The bus stop to other sites (like the Scrovegni Chapel) was just down the street. But most everything else was easily walkable if you're on a tight schedule. It has parking and my only caveat is that as you come down via beato Belludi stop in front of the hotel. Do not take a left into what you may take for their lot. It will take you into the ZTL and at the time of our visit the front desk was visibly relieved to hear we had not made that left (coming in from the south of town). They will park the car for you.

As MilenaM I agree with Abano Terme.
It is really close to Padua and even if only for an evening, you can swim in a thermal pool which is truly a relaxing experience. If you choose a hotel with indoor pools as the hotel Ariston Molino http://www.aristonmolino.it you can have bath and get back in the room just in a bathrobe. Nothing could be more comfortable.
