Packing list or clothing suggestions for Ireland in August
My wife and I are going to Ireland this month. Any clothing's suggestions or better yet a packing list? We are trying to go light. Part of the time we will be on a bus tour in the Republic and the other will be in a rental car in Northern Ireland. Thanks.

Dark jeans go everywhere, even to dinner at the better restaurants. MDH & I took one pair of dress pants and the only time we wore them was to get into Old Head Gold Course shop to buy a hat---no jeans allowed on the property.
We always travel with just a carry-on, 12 days in Ireland twice included. Layers always work well. A sweater or 2, even in Aug. and a light rain jacket. Of course, comfortable shoes are the main thing. Short sleeve tees with a shirt over were our norm when were there in Sept. and May. I had 1 thin fleece along also. We really never had any cold weather on either trip. A couple of dressier shirts with dark jeans and a jacket or sweater always worked for dinner. It's August, so shorts? If I was bringing any they would be the longer kind. Just one traveler's opinion, everyone is different but Ireland is very casual except maybe in the most expensive hotels & restaurants. |

I agree with this, and also that a rain jacket is a must, ideally one that is an all-purpose jacket for those times when the weather can't make up its mind. I longed for a rain hat, myself, as dealing with an umbrella for a fine mist was too annoying. We were last there in September and it never poured but rained a bit every day. |
