Packing for London

We leave Monday. Weather forecast looks fabulous. Are sandals okay in September (weather permitting) or does everyone put them away at the end of August?

M_K, where are you?

I packed a small umbrella which we ended up using.

Do you like cloudy/rainy weather? Strange as it may seem Londoners do not pack their sandals away en masse at the end of August!!

My dear, I've seen people wearing sandals when there's snow on the ground. It doesn't mean to say I don't think that they're mad and have no idea, but they do what they want.

No one is going to look at you, and report you to the legal authorities for deportation because you are wearing sandals in September. The weather today is very grey, and not particularly warm, if you still want to pretend it's summer please go ahead.

September is always a turning point where you start to wear your new season's wardrobe and say goodbye to all but the most classic pieces from the last seasons.

Sandals are fine for this time of the year. I would be sure to take closed shoes as well because sandals are not as nice in the rain, and you will probably have some. Enjoy London.

M_K, I knew you would come through for us. :-)

M_K you're a gem!

I'm packing for London right now. I'm taking my sandals as I dearly wished I had had them along in May (8 days straight of sunny weather around 70), and bought a pair of Clarks after the second day (not as comfortable as my beloved Munros for all that walking).

It's very overcast, it's cold, I assure you that you won't be requiring open footwear.

I have an old pair of Birkenstock sandals that I took on my last trip to England. I didn't wear them out anywhere, but it felt so good to slip them on in the evenings when I got back to the flat. After all day in walking shoes, it just felt wonderful to have them on my feet.
